Now keep in mind it's nothing fancy(XTi), but I'm sure I will be pleased. I have been a long Canon fan, all my video cameras and digital for the past 10 years have been Canon. I currently have a Canon S3 IS that I love. I used the Live cash back 25% and a 10% coupon that ebay sent me for a total of 35% off of 499 a brand new XTi on ebay. I made sure it was an authorized dealer as to have the 1 year warranty. It is the basic retail kit with lens etc. I will have to buy a memory card, any suggestions?

I will be using this for general family pics and when I go places, kid sports games, my cruise next month. What would be some good budget lens to look for?


Oh and I used the 25% ebay cash back last night and got the IS kit lens new in package for 110 with 25% back from that.
 
The 50mm f/1.8 is my favorite lens on my Rebel (XSi). I only have the kit lens, the 50mm, and a craptastic 28-90mm lens so far though, so it's not like the lens had much competition.

As for memory cards, I have a handful of 8GB Transcend cards that have been setting me back about $15ish each, and I'm pretty content with them so far. Good performance, very affordable, can't go wrong.

Regardless of what you buy, congrats on the new camera 🙂

i also bought my first DSLR today, the XSi. Live.com is actually 30% now, combined with the 10% ebay off = a big chunk.

there was a deal last night (it might still be) with sandisk extreme iii SD/CF cards. i got three 4gb cards for free after rebate.
