My guess? Someone was a bit careless with his tube of Arctic Silver, squeezed a bit too hard on the plunger, and shot some onto the board. Then wiped it off with rubbing alcohol. Shouldn't hurt anything if the board was just spot treated gently with a clean cloth moistened with isopropyl (most likely case), as it would have pretty much evaporated immediately. So long as it wasn't dunked in a bathtub full of rubbing alcohol, it shouldn't be a problem.

Rubbing alcohol, could have had a charlie horse from running too hard. At least it didn't smell like tequila or that moonshine grade of grain alcohol that someone was cleaning their CPU & h'sink with. The odor of alcohol should have flashed off within a few minutes of the system coming up to a stable operating temperature. You may be noticing some of the plastic and epoxy chemical solvents out-gassing from the board or from new PC boards in the PCI slots, or from the case material itself. Some new builds or added components wil stink for a week or more. Did you get a new power supply? they can be oderiferous too.

Yo! Andy Hui - the Moderator: If you see this, can you light off a section for MEMORY. There are a lot of questions about memory chips and performance PCXXXX that are starting to scatter through the CPU & Motherboard threads, but little activity on the 'Chipset' thread section. Might get a lot of focus attention as a Section Topic.

Resistance is useless, you WILL be assimulated.
