I bought a Mountain Bike

WaTaGuMp

Lifer
Got it about 4 weeks ago, been doing some upgrades, mostly for looks. I go ride the HB bike path on the weekends, also tool around home doing some errands, or just go for a ride.

Good looking bike. Got any specs on it?

That is an abnormally tall handle bar height. Did it come from factory like that?

Good on you! She looks nice. I wish I could get into a physical activity easily 🙂

Bought a nice road-bike two summers ago, but still prefer my 15 year old mountain bike even on the road under most circumstances. Sorta nice to know I can hop onto the sidewalk easily without folding a wheel!

Congrats on the shiny new ride! 🙂

That frame looks awful damned small for you. How much of the seat post is actually in the seat tube? You might have been better served by a hybrid if you need the handlebars that high.

Its a medium frame 29er, I did have a hybrid bike before returning it for this one. The hybrid was a large, but the guy at the shop said I should be okay since this is a 29. I have been playing with seat height, bar height etc. I have a 400mm seatpost coming. I really wasnt sure if the medium was going to be okay, still learning. The hybrid was hands down better comfort wise, but I needed bling.

Bling??? You trying to pick up college girls on the bike path or something?

How _old_ are you? Your Dad was born in 1927, making him older than mine, and I'm in my 50s.

Well, have fun, kid! If this is your first bike since that "English racer" that you had in college in the early 80s, you'll figure it out eventually.

Its my first bike since I was a kid, so much longer in between. I am only trying to stop my ass from getting sore, the new saddle is the hardest one so far. Every other has been a gel saddle. Pretty sure it shouldn't take me much longer to find the right one, maybe 2 years.

1. Good quality padded bike shorts. You can wear them under loose-fitting cargo shorts if you want to avoid the bike weenie look. Or wear mountain biking shorts with a padded liner, although they're generally not as good.

2. Time in the saddle and hardening of the butt.

Don't count on suddenly finding a magic saddle, although some saddles will fit you better than others.

I tried both types of shorts, I don't like the feeling of them off the bike. As for the saddle, yeah, right now I am trying the hardening of the butt thing. Thats why I went with the current saddle, the WTB Speed V, to test the harder seats are better which some people have told me.

Well, you shouldn't need them for a two mile ride to Starbucks to get a coffee, but if you go out on a 20 or 30 mile ride, what difference does it make how they feel off the bike?

I just couldn't get use to them compressing my junk, heh. My ride on the weekend is about 10 miles total per day.

I am 50 right on the button. Young at heart. 😎
Same but not so young at heart. Even after riding a trek for 12 years, it took a while to get the new one set up so I was comfortable....ish.

No bike shorts. Just the seat with the cutout. Not much padding. I do have decent padded gloves and oury gel grips.

i wish i took a pic of my bike frame on the rack (with handlebars splayed off to the side) when i had it apart. would have been funny for this thread.

I couldn't imagine having a mountain bike in California. I would be afraid of it getting jacked. Where I live there are lots of trails and it's not some big ass city. My bike wighs a ton with all the tools I stuck in both poaches in case I break down. I havn't rode in quit awhile and need a better seat since the one I have now is for someone wity a bonny ass.

Full disclosure I lived in California before. My aunt lived in Orange County and we lived in Riverside. Orange County is nice with the ocean breeze. It must travel that far because it ain't like Riverside that's blocked with hills.

I was surprised to find out that the wedge pouch which carries a tube, hex key set and the plastic tire pry things, weighs in at 3 lbs. So running with a water bottle and everything, the bike is at 37lbs.

Yeah, you would be surprised at how much that shit adds up.
