I bought a black MacBook.

What's the big deal? Dealerships charge a premium over some colors of paint anyhow.
Congratulations and welcome to the Apple family.

Dammit, I said before.. I've been in the family for years now 😛

Isn't that he one where they charge $200 for the black plastic?

yup. a damn shame too.. sure, you get a slightly bigger HDD too, but whatever.. still paying for a color difference.
hehe...my black macbook only cost $250 total. Thanks eBay and people who don't try to figure out how to fix things. 🙂

I hate you.. really, I do 😛

Only w/ Macs would you use a color to describe the kind you got..

It's like chicks and cars.

"Oh so what kind of car do you have?"
"An Audi."
"Nice, what kind?"
"I dunno, it's a blue one."
😕

I don't think your analogy quite holds up. There is only 1 black mac book. So by saying he got the black macbook, everyone knows what he is taking about. Your card analogy only works if audi only made 1 blue car.

I'm not bashing the OP, but rather Macs themselves for distinguishing their models by colors (this thread was in Off topic at the time)

Imagine if cars were like that--with a white M5 having 400hp while a black one produces 500hp.

What was "broken" in the Macbook?

Didn't boot at all, backlight would flash for a split second, sleep light would go solid and fan would spin for a couple seconds then everything would shut off, picked up a tested working CoreDuo system board from a white MacBook off eBay for $250 shipped, swapped it in (I had to make a paper schematic and tape all the damn screws in location on the schematic while taking it apart so I'd know where they went when reassembling it, pain in the ass) and away it went. So I have a Black & White MacBook...not the fastest thing on the block, but it works fine for surfing and remote access into clients networks. With 2GB, it runs a Vista VM in Fusion pretty well too.

EDIT: The host BlackBook was a client's, he didn't want to pay us or Apple to diagnose & fix it (out of warranty), so he said keep it and bought himself a new MBP...so that was free (even got a second, brand new battery in the deal).
