Placed an order on ebay for a Samsung Captivate S replacement battery and charger last week. The package arrived a minute ago. The manufacturing date is 2010.10.15. Man I am so lucky to get a battery from the future.

lithium ion batteries have a shelf life... so they are pushing that date foward

Well I bought other batteries for my digital camera and camcorder before, they all worked fine. Not exploded yet.
I will contact the seller and see what his response will be.

It's an expiration date on certain products, not necessarily when the product will expire or when it was manufactured. Perhaps it was listed on ebay to bleed out excess inventory (it happens) from an ailing economic downturn from '06 - '10 years.

Also, the manufacturing date may have been from 2009, as it was probably misprinted.

I would not right away jump to conclusions of the battery being poor quality or exploding, although it can't be 100% free from future defects. Could of even been a prototype sample that passed QA, and the company needed to save money on throw-away products.
Many Asian companies are no different than American lead companies, state-side or internationally, as far as money-saving techniques go, certain measures not limited to profiteering are just more revealing than others.

I say if it works, it works..

$1.99 batteries off ebay with free shipping, now that's a bargain vs. one for $30.00 at Best Buy. We could order ten $1.99 batteries from different ebay sellers, surely with the benefits of having multiple backup batteries, several of them are sure to be in good working order.
