I bought a 6300 Core 2 and now I kinda regret it

I bought a 6300, but its a real crap shoot now. There are really only 4 "good" boards available(?), Asus P5W DH Deluxe is probably the best board but tough to get and super expensive. The Gigabyte boards, DS3 won't work with ocz or resonably priced ddr2 with higher than 2.1 volts requirements. The DQ6 same thing and is higher priced than the Asus. The MSI Platinum 975X seems decent but, looks like it has a fsb wall that may occur with Core 2 duos. The boards are either expensive, quirky, or just flat out not available. But I look at AMD, reasonable, fast, plenty of choices, and stable. I am a little stretched as to what to do. The sweet thing with Core 2 is that if you buy them in person you can see what your buying, the cpu is open in the top of the box, nice when you start shopping for certain weeks . I am really thinking of just putting it aside, putting together an AM2 box then build another system when things improve on the Intel side. Anyone else in this quandary?

I take it you havent even put a core 2 duo system together yet, if you have, what are your specs?

Some people are able to boot up with the ocz ram without issue, mostly plat. I had to return my gold for plat and its working great now.

These kinds of quirks are to be expected from newly released products. A month or so should make things a lot better, though.

I have both an AMD X2 4200+ AM2 system with an nForce5 MB and an Intel C2D e6400 system with the DS3.

I am here to tell you that the AM2 platform is way bugier than the Intel, and I am a diehard AMD fan. Also, as long as you update the Gigabyte DS3's BIOS it will run just about any RAM. I have some very cheap bargain DDR2 that works as well as my very expensive Corsair and OCZ.

I say get a C2D board and update the BIOS. Your best bet is a P965 based board to get more out of your e6300.

My AM2 setup uses the Asus M2N-SLI Deluxe. I also tried the MSI nForce 550 board, the Asus was less buggy but still very irritating.

OP: If you want to build a Conroe rig now I'd go with 975X rather than P965 for the reason you mentioned.

Edit: Oh wait. You have an E6300.

it certainly is a dilemma to buy a new Cpu while being too scared of buying a new mobo.
but his start post is a fake imo and he just points out the obviuos, which is...well what we all know, conroe boards are only few and the chipset is kinda sucky..

The DS3 works fine with OCZ (Im using OCZ myself) with the updated BIOS, just needs to be booted with one stick first, and then have the BIOS updated.

If it's just too much work then sell it on Ebay or something, with the current demand for C2D I'm sure you won't lose much.

all i can say is im happy as can be with my e6300...i hope i am as happy with my e6600 when i get it!!! my e6300 is overclocked 60% and that is unheard of ive never gotten such ability out of my other processors

Where did you come up with that? I've seen many 60% overclocks, as has Duvie. He was one of the many people on this forum who was running a 2.4 Ghz P4C at 3.5 Ghz, for a considerable length of time.

edit: Just got out my calculator. A 2.4 @ 3.5 Ghz is a 68.5% overclock.

always wait a month or two before buying a complete new platform...like when AM2 came out, there were ALOT of memory issues with the boards, and now they are pretty much all cleared.
