So, I was cleaning out my comp and after putting the p4 back in, failed to notice that one of the pins didn't go in right and I clamped it down, so the pin was bent pretty badly.

I bent it back and stuck it back in, and it works.

What I want to know is, will all this bending and unbending affect the processor in any way ?
Is it possible to scrape the gold off the pin ?

It works fine though.. =)

If it works, don't mess with it. In my experience I have found it is worth it NOT to ever take the CPU out of there unless you absolutely have to. It just puts it at risk for damage and mistakes like you experienced. That being said; if it work, it works. Don't mess with it. Gold is pretty soft is bends well to a point.

My favorite tool for fixing bent pins (especially ones on monitor cables and such) is a Bic pumper pencil. The pin can go all the way up in it and be straightened out again. I brought a monitor connector back from the dead with one and some serious finesse. Took a while but got it perfect

I broke two pins on a 1.2ghz athlon a couple years ago.... its still running in my sister's room.

If the pin is still attached and in it should be ok.

thanks for all the reassuring replies..

this is actually the second time I bent a pin on this processor, but this time the degree of bending is the most, so I was a little worried..

Thanks again..

Just make sure not to bend it again, depending on the degree it might break off like a broken stick!

If you happen to bend another pin on it, that's the limit for bending. Please send it to me ASAP for I can use the parts... :p
