So this past week I figured out that you can still use a mini DVI cable in a Thunderbolt port to just use it for video. I just assumed it would require a different cable instead of trying it or even looking at it.

So yeah, if you have a mini DVI cable you can still hook up video to a monitor from your Thunderbolt port.

Carry on.

You mean the mini-DP cable?

I'm doing it here... I've got an iMac with both my old cinema display and a newer thunderbolt display plugged into the thunderbolt ports. Works great 🙂

I panicked for a minute when thunderbolt was released- what about all the display cables? Did they get rid of those?

Had a *duh* moment later when I saw it was Mini-DP backwards compatible. *Facepalm*

Apparently it doesn't work the other way though. The Thunderbolt display cannot be used on a MiniDP system.

I plugged in my old laptop hd in to my dads laptop. Nothing?! Hmmm...wtf?!

I forgot it's formatted in what Mac OS and isn't readable by windows. Doh. Got home and transferred the files to a usb stick.
