Well, it is about time to get a new rig.
I can not stand my P3 533MHz anymore!

Thing is , I have no idea what to buy.
I was thinking of the following:

P4 Northwood 1.6(A)
MSI 645-Ultra
Hercules 3D Prophet FDX 8500LE
256MB Kinkston DDR-RAM PC2100
Maxtor D740X-6L 40GB 7200RPM
Dragon Case (Identical to Antec SX1030B) with no PSU

I have been running my P3 533MHz ststem for over 2 years now, and would like to use its power-supply for my new rig.
I noticed that there is a new connector on motherboards for P4 systems. I am sure my PSU doesn't have it.
Do I need to buy anew PSU? My current one is a noname 300W.

I would like to note that I want to Overclock that CPU to 2400MHz or at least do 2133MHz.
I have no extra money to spend and so I was wondering if that MOBO and Ram would let me do that.
The case also comes with two 60mm fans, and one that blows air on the CPU area.

What do you think?
Should I buy a CPU with the intention to O/C it?
Because if it does not overclock, It would be a waste becasue I can get an AthlonXP based rig for the same price!

I appriciate any help given!!!

First of all, scratch that P4/DDR idea. Performance is horrid on it as the memory bandwidth is the major system bottleneck. If going RDRAM is a problem, you might as well get an Athlon XP.

As for PSU, if you want to OC, get something at least 350W.

here's what i would do:

wait a few weeks until:

a) the new SiS 645 DX -based motherboards come out...they officially support the 533 MHz FSB, so you would know that the problem would be your processor if you couldn't hit at least 2133 MHz with that 1600A

b) the GeForce4 Ti4200 video cards come out. they'll cost maybe $40-$60 more than that 8500LE but it will be worth it

also, you WILL need a new power supply, and I would get a nice one if i were you. a crappy power supply can decrease your chances of a good overclock. i personally am a fan of the 350 watt HEC power supply with the dual fan system. it's very nice.

i would also invest in some high quality Samsung PC2700 memory (it doesn't carry too much of a premium over the PC2100 memory from Kingston (maybe $15-$20), and i hear it overclocks like no other. coupled with the new 645DX motherboard, you could be running a 1.6A @ 2133 with a 400 MHz memory bus. that would be SMOKIN!!!!!!

Thanks for your replys, guys.

Thing is, that I don't live in the us or europe.
And so, new hardware will arrive much later, and it would cost a lot more.
See, the difference between the LE and the Ti4200 would probably be $100 or even more!
Same goes for that SiS645DX and for those memory sticks..

Damn.

If you want to use the same power supply, which "should" be efficient, I would go with the Asus P4B266-c or the Asus P4S333 and you can still go with the DDR ram. These mobos can get the 12V from a molex connector that attaches to the mobo. I'm not sure if other manufacturers do this or not, but I would check to see if that MSI one does.

P4/DDR works well if you use a P4S333 Mobo with PC2700 DDR Ram then it will run at respectable speeds

Hell, it works well with P4B266-C, running 3:4 @ 132 for 172 RAM. :D

2133 is all but guaranteed, 2.4+ is not unheard of. Go for it!
