stay away from smaller distributions in general. they are usually focused towards some market, ie small footpring distributions, telecoms (asplinux if i remember correctly), etc. for starting in linux get a major player, redhat (or redhat derivative such as mandrake), suse, slackware, or debian.
if u want to LEARN linux get slackware. youll have to read about linux to understand it. youll have to learn the CLI before you can configure your gui. but hey, we all crawl before we run.
if u just want to see linux, try mandrake. its pretty, and its easy to use. but it kinda hides things from u. to me, the beauty of linux is that i can work beneath the system.
