Yes I am trying a low carb diet. (3'rd day). It's not stricktly Atkins (yes I got the book) but I am basically cutting out bread, pasta, soda and other high carb things.
I failed today because I had rice by mistake. LOL!

I'll see how this goes.

Its difficult because most of the things you crave tend to be high in carbs.

But, after you quit eating so many carbs, your body tends to lose most of your craving for them. The problem is once you muss-up and eat something high in carbs, your body will go right back to craving them.

It's fine so far execpt for the rice.

Had chicken breast + salad + diet Fresca yesterday.
Snacking on cheese and some mini carrots.
It's not zero carb but close.

Sorry, but it's basically lower caloric intake, and higher caloric expenditure. In other words, get off yer @ss and exercise, and don't eat as much.

No magic diets. The recommended diet by most physicians and nutritionists is to have about 60% carb calories, 30% fat, and 10% protein. And you can just as easily lose weight on that if you follow the rules above. Pretty simple concept actually.

Since you've been reading the book, I can only presume that you understand that it's not a NO CARB plan, but rather a LOW CARB one.

I've been doing Atkins for 24 days, and I've lost 16 lbs. :D

As Sluggo said, it gets easier after the first week. You loose the cravings and you realize that you feel better overall.

And as time goes by, you get more and more creative with finding things to eat. I am never dissatisfied with my meals. :)

FrustratedUser, I added you to my Private Topics thread about low carb diets. (If anyone else wants to join, just throw me a pm. ;) )

Thanks Wingznut. I'll stop by that thread.

Creative is the key word. I browsed the book and got the main idea how it works. A mistake wont ruin everything.

My sister's doing it... but she's kinda weird. She's buying whip cream and stuff and eating it. I told her "ya, no carbs, but look at what's in it... definitely not healthy" Oh well, I just try to eat well balanced meals.

Then it's basically guaranteed that you're not just losing fat, but also losing muscle. Not really a good thing.

Weight alone should not be your only gauge.

I found out a friend of mines been on the diet for about 2 months now. He told me he's lost a lot of weight.(but I couldn't tell) My Aunt been on it for awhile now too. Not really any noticable difference either. I think their going about it the wrong way. They eat as much low carb stuff as they want and don't exercise. I don't know how that is good for you. My suggestion is to maybe go light on this diet like eat bread and stuff everyother day and exercise alot.

There'd be noway I could do the low carb thing. For one thing, I absolutely love my post-workout tunafish sandwich. :)

I have a question for you guys who swear by the Atkins diet: how come Asians who eat so much carbs from rice and noodles are by average have lower rates of obesity?

failed today because I had rice by mistake. LOL!

sometimes that happens, I once ate a whole meal at a restaurant, following strict Atkins tenants, and then on the way out, I grabbed a candy mint and started eating with without even realizeing what I was doing.

And one time I was at Fridays eating a mushroom swiss burger (minus the bun) and after finishing the whole thing, I realized that the carmelized onions I just ate were loaded with carbs.

it happens!

You are correct... Weight alone is not my only gauge, just the most convenient one.

How about the fact that I am noticably thinner... I can run farther than I could 5 weeks ago... I have more energy througout the day... And I just feel better all-around? ;)

I've been bicycling and running, but I'm going to start hitting the weight room this week. Which, to be honest, I'm a little intimidated by... I need to educate myself on what exercises to do when, and the proper form.
