I posted last night about my temps and possibly a fake chip because of my temps. Today i have looked very closely at the chip and bridges and from what i can tell its a good chip. Today I have pulled my mother board out and reattched the fan to make sure it is a good connection with the core and it is great. I think my voltage is 1.75 with a 100mhz bus speed. I am useing a Super-Orb with thermal paste.

I talked to some techs here at a store today and they are useing regular orbs with no thermal compound on the same chip and there temps are what they should be 37-46 Celsius.

My setup is a Gigabyte 7ZX-1 motherboard, a super orb with thermal paste, no thermal pad and a 1GHZ Tbird not overclocked. When I boot up my temps are 48-66 depending on how long the PC was off for. After I open up a few IE windows it easily shoots up to 78+ Celsius. Every thing is normal with the fan its on straight and tight.

I think it may be a bad mobo. I am gonna take it into be looked at from the store I bought the board from, before I do that does any one know what i can try? I've been told to take the thermal paste off cause that is never supposed to be used (i'm not kidding) I've been told my fan is not on properly but it is.

I am just very stumped on this, any ideas?

I don't have much advise... but DANG, that is TOO hot.

Make sure you don't have too much Thermal paste on there! too much will end up acting like a blanket rather than a thermal conductor.

Leave your case open and blow a house fan on the MB. See if your temp gets down into the low 40's or even 30s depending on how wide open your processor is. If it still has a high temp, I'd say your thermal sensor on the motherboard is outta whack.

Hope this helps a bit.

I've tried apllying the paste thin, medium and some what thick and the temps are still the same. I have had a case fan also blowing directly onto the fan and cpu, it made it drop maybe 3 celsius at the most, with the case open and closed temps run pretty well the same. This is odd.

Hehe, i've done that to with both plugins for the orb :) but no change. The fans are spinning constantly at 6500+ RPM. I'm not even gonna run the system till i fugure this out, its just to hot to safely run.
