I am this ( | | ) close to buying a Dell 2405FPW... Need Help!!!

I am really close to buying the Dell 2405FPW and having it last me as long as it can (I mean until it's dead and if it dies within the waranty I will RMA).

But what I am worried about is the present, I am wondering if my 9800PRO is powerful enough to run this beauty at the 1920X1200 because I am not ready to buy a new card (I like using something till it's dead, can you tell?).

So this really is my final and deciding decision. Also will it perform better in games than the 2001FP? I am also kinda stuck between the two.

Please help guys, my 19" CRT died and I need a new monitor.

Your 9800 Pro will not really be able to run games at 1920x1200 (maybe if you turn down all your settings, but I still doubt it) - I have my doubts that even my 6800GT would be so hot at that resolution. The scaling on these monitors is pretty good though, so you could use native resolution for your desktop and a somewhat lower resolution for games.

If you turn down the settings to medium, and play with no AA/AF, then your 9800pro should be able to handle most games.

Well, what games do you play? You'd probably have to have an 6800/X800+ setup to play new games at that high of a resolution in high quality. Also, the 2001FP would perform better for games because your graphics card won't be rendering as many pixels (1600x1200 vs. 1920x1200).

You don't have to play games at native resolution with that panel. It will scale down to whatever resolution you choose w/ black areas outside of that resolution.

Well first I want to use this monitor until it dies, and I have no idea how many video cards that is... `Also a summer job might get me a 6800Ultra 512MB or even next gen AGP...

Games I play:

World of Warcraft
Battlefield 1942 (and soon BF2)

Games I have that I play when I am bored of those two are all the latest games (FarCry, HL2) The other gamer I plan on getting is STALKER. That is really it. I plan on playing my XBOX 360 most of the time, and that is what makes the 2405 so appealing!

You don't even have to do that. This monitor scales well using the entire screen if you like. I don't see any interpolation using it at non native resolutions.

i have a 9800pro with a 2005fp. i was thinking it would be fine because i used to play my games at 1600x1200 on my old monitor. for some reason it plays like ass at 1680x1050.

im still gonna hold off for the next gen cards tho.

The games you wanna play are all demanding, so your Pro won't be able to run them at native resolution with high settings. But as people suggested, you can just lower the resolution and play on high settings. I wouldn't buy a 6800Ultra/Next gen if I were to spend most of my time on 360. Oh, and 360 + Dell 2405FPW = gaming goodness

If you have a 9800 Pro and a 1920x1200 LCD and you dont want to interpolate, try 960x600 . (do any games support this?)

I own myself a 2005FPW and 6600GT Pci-E.

couldn't pull off the settings that I had when I was using 19" CRT.

You could always just add it as a custom resolution if you wanted to.

You aren't the first person to mention this. Apparently, this is due to the increased FOV of the widescreen aspect ratio. I really wish that someone (hint, hint AT) would start including widescreen resolutions in thier benchmarks. I also wish that someone other than Dell and Apple made widescreen LCD's. That would help with the adoption rate as well as the game compatibility. I don't think I've ever liked another monitor as much as I like my Dell 2005FPW, and I think most people would really like computing in widescreen if they gave it a try.

And dont even consider AA/AF.

Your looking at a SLI setup for that monitor.

Well, with more 17" widescreen notebooks coming out, it will start adopting at least a bit faster.
