I am thinking about grabbing a Thunderbird. Will PC100 memory work? Why or why not?

I'm still running a ol' Celeron 366 at 550. I have a nice stick of 128MB Mushkin [PC100] CAS2 RAM.. rated at 125mhz. How much of a performance hit would I take if I stayed with this instead of buying PC133. I'd like to grab a 900-1G Thunderbird.

Not sure about other motherboard, but the Asus A7V has a setting for pc100 or pc133 ram so it should work fine.

I have bought many diff types of SDRAM and some were Mushkin, ALL SDRAM worked with my AMD CPU's.

Goodluck :)

Hello,
You shouldn't take a performance hit, the current motherboards support 100mhz fsb (200 ddr) so unless you plan on overclocking you won't get any benefit from the 133.

you may be able to run the 8ns ram at 133 ... i have had some 8ns sticks that ran at 133 ... it would do it cas 3 ... but not cas 2 ....

you may wanna give it a shot and see if you get more BSODs ..
