The title says it all. I have no myspace, facebook or any other social networking web page. I know several people who spend hours on end EACH day on these sites.

I think society has a whole is losing their ability to openly socialize in a person to person setting and it will get worse in time.

My son once in awhile gets a friendly ribbing from his friends because he has neither facebook or myspace. Nor does he have any sort of IM or text capabilities on his cell phone which is a PAYG phone so even his talking is limited to "Dad come pick me up I am done with sports practice".

There is not really any reason not to be on facebook. You don't need to be on it steady like some people, but it is a good way to organize events, share photos, and communicate with people at a really relaxed pace.

Yes you live in a bubble. Without facebook, I wouldn't be able to spy on people. I recently found a childhood friend on facebook and it turns out she's a hardcore lesbian and her reading interests are "lesbian literature". Another facebook success story!

edit:
Don't post pictures of yourself breaking the law. Too many people do that.

The only way to top this story is with two lesbians and a goat.

I am not on any form of social networking either, so no, you aren't the only one.

I see absolutely no reason why I should participate in any of them.

I don't use commercial, social networking sites. I have a phone and email, and magically they have been melded into a single device called the smartphone. Getting in touch with me is easy. I do use LinkedIn for work though.

The only account I have is with FB, and I don't really use it. I don't have a wall, or photos, or apps, or anything else. I log in once, maybe twice a month or look up a phone number or find a picture, or something. I prefer to keep my private life private so I don't really get into it. Unfortunately, it's almost necessary these days to keep up with events and what not. People don't send out party invites or even spread invites well by word of mouth anymore, it's all facebook events.. so you really need an account just to be kept in the loop.

And yet here you are socializing on some tech forums lol

There is a difference between making a quick post and throwing up an entire webpage and sitting there babysitting it.

I also post in hot deals and read the tech forums to learn. What the hell you going to learn on facebook or myspace other then your childhood friend is now a hardcore lesbian.

I was just discussing this with a friend yesterday. She was asking me why I still haven't joined the hive mind - I mean, join Facebook - when I explained that I already waste my time on other sites enough, and quit IM precisely because I would spend so much time talking to people (usually people I didn't know that well, but somehow got my screen name through a friend of a friend, and I didn't want to offend) about inane things.

So I stay in contact with my actual friends by email, phone, and real life, and I only converse online with strangers by way of AnandTech, which I think is greater than Facebook for discussing interesting (and sometimes inane, of course) topics with diverse people. Plus I occasionally sell stuff here in FS/FT, so that gives me another reason to at least visit the forums.

I'm still tempted to join FB, though, at least to get in contact with people in high school that I lost contact with.

Yup, that's how I see it. I don't need an extra job. With social networking you have an audience, and people expect things of you. Here, if I never posted again I doubt anyone would miss me :^D

This wasn't a poll choice, but the answer to your question is NO. The "Lone wolf/last holdout from society for facebook" types are getting more annoying than the worst off the facebook users you so despise.

Seriously, your not counter-culture anymore. get over yourself. If you don't like facebook, FINE, you don't need to inform the entire world of that fact.

Block them? I blocked my parents as soon as they created accounts... I also made my profile private, friends private, etc. Just in case... :D
