I am the lucky shade tree mechanic

I've been driving my '96 Escort to work for two weeks to save gas. I kept feeling a vibration coming through the floor boards.

I thought CV joints, transaxle, maybe the tires, but it felt too sharp.

When I inspected the stuff this morning I noticed one of the tie rod ends had a ton of play. I replaced it thinking this had nothing to do with the vibration, but that was the cause.

That wheel must have been fluttering like a leaf at 70 mph. I'm lucky it didn't break.

You are lucky it works at all.

<-- Hates Ford Escorts.

It does me alright. The thing has been sitting in my driveway for almost a year with little use. Now that we're moving further out from my work I thought I'd drive it. Point A to point B.

It still has a couple things I want to fix, but it runs like a top.
