I am stumped on opening my ps2

This has been an embarrassing asking around on how to open my ps2, but I am stumped. I have the original ps2, not the slim. I unscrewed all the 6 or however many scews, and I tryed to see if the cover would come off. No luck. It it is being held by something in the front by the drive. Also, how do you pull the cover off with getting it over the controller ports, and the buttons and drive? THANKS!

I searched around. I couldn't find anything without having to spend money. Ill try again, sorry if I just suck at searching.

The seal was the first thing I broke. It had a genius way of making it say void once you took it off to.

more than 6 screws when i took mine apart. uner the overhang are some, and under the unit itself are some.

I just pushed it toward the front while lifting. I don't think there were any other screws. I believe there is a ribbon cable that goes to the power/eject buttons that connects the two halves so be careful.

also, start with the drive tray open, it makes things easier i think...it's been a while since i did mine though..and be very careful with he ribbon cables that go to the controller/memory card ports and the soft power switch on the front....

and watch out for the connector for the fan...i pulled mine loose from the board trying to get it out and had to do a very careful solder job

Thanks guys, Im just an idiot. There are 8 screws. I missed 2 on the bottom. 4 were under rubber pads, and the other 2 were under the hard plastic pad. I didn't think that the hard plastic pads were removable. THANKS!

good thing too..i was about to suggest a hammer...now that would have been messy....

the # of screws depends on the version...once you are sure all the screws are removed, you hold the back top of the cover and tilt it up gently since there is a ribbon cable on the top cover that connects to the eject switch. Then all you to is flip the lid out of your way. The reject switch is held in place by these plastic extrusions that stick out of the cover. Use a flat head screwdriver to remove the eject switch gently not breaking off the plastic pieces or you are screwed since the switch will not fit and stay in place later. Hope that helps.
