I am starting to hate temp agencies

Two hours before I was scheduled to start today, I called them temp agency I work for to let them know I will not be comming in today. While I am at a temp agency, I am working at a warehouse with 100 other people for the entire summer. They just called me a few minutes ago to let me know that it was the second day I had taken off in the past week. Great, as if I don't feel bad enough as it is, they make me feel guilty. Considering that in the last job I had for 2 years I called in sick twice over that entire period, I really don't feel bad about it.

grrr

If anything, it's the temp agency who should be hating you. 2nd day off in a week? Terrible work ethic bro. By the way, 2 sick days in 2 years is nothing to brag about. I've went 8 years without a single sick-day off work. My company pays a bonus for sick days not taken, thus I profit when I show up for work as scheduled.

My company calls them "personal days". You can use them if you're sick. If you're "never" sick like me, and you get no bonus, you need to find other ways to use them, like maternity leave or what not.

Same here. It's just "paid time off" and you use it or lose it, so I make sure I use it, albeit scheduled well in advance.

I think you might need to take more than a day off if you have to take maternity leave, Skoorb :)

And you might want to subject yourself to some tests...male pregnancy = bad.

So your company pays you to show up and make everyone else sick? Great. Fantastic. I'm sure your "work ethic" has killed at least a dozen people in those 8 years, thanks to you spreading the flu or something else. There's a reason you're given sick leave: in case you're f%$#ing sick! You get sick, you take sick leave.

By the by, your company is just as responsible for the fallout of you showing up to work sick. They've established a rewards system that encourages the spread of disease. You shouldn't get paid extra because you're either too greedy to stay home or lucky enough to not get sick.

You win my Dumbass of the Day award. Next time you wake up with a fever why don't you whack yourself in the head with it a few times instead of going to work?

I agree that Rudee is probably personally responsible for a minimum of a dozen deaths by this. If only there was still capital punishment in Canada we could probably hang him for it!

Yeah, probably at least a week :) I could also use them to take care of a sick baby or something!

I relish sick days. There is some saying that says on your death bed are you going to wish you put in more time at work. Hell no!! Two lousy weeks off a year (first job I actually now get two weeks) is nothing. Sick or not I'm taking advantage of those days.

Have you thought that maybe he hasn't gotten sick in those 8 years instead of assuming otherwise?

I live in a gambling state and am very familiar with probability. The odds of him not getting sick over a period of 8 years are incredibly low.

Regardless, his post seems to indicate he views not taking days off for being sick as some sort of accomplishment. It isn't. That alone warrants a good tongue-lashing.

temp agencies suck.

I worked for one when I was in college... one summer, I called up a company that I had worked for the previous summer; during the summer that I worked for them, the company had said outright that I'd be welcome to come back for the next summer, so I was calling up my old supervisor to take them up on the offer.

I left a voicemail, and a few hours later, I got a call from my contact at the temp agency saying that they were dropping me because I contacted a job directly. thus ended my experience with temp agencies.

I never call off sick. Unless I'm in my deathbed, I'll be at work. I'm on hourly and I only get 5 paid "call-off" days off total per year so if I go beyond that, I don't get paid. Those personal days are not to be used if I'm sick...they're for me to schedule off and enjoy. I don't care if I make other people at work sick...outside of about 5 people, I wouldn't care if everyone else at my workplace fell off the planet.

we get sick days (5 maybe), but I'd never use them unless I was in the hospital or otherwise physically unable to come to work.

if I were to call out sick, one of two things would happen: one of the 2nd shift guys (4 pm - 12 am) would be required to work a double shift to cover for me, or one of the managers would have to come in (and work from 12 am - 4 pm). either way, I'd never hear the end of it.

I even drove to work in the middle of a blizzard last winter (unplowed roads and everything). I was swerving like mad, and if there were other cars on the road, I'd have gotten into an accident, but we're required (per contracts with clients) to have a minimum of two people in the data center at all times.

Like gambling is exclusive to Nevada, It?s pretty much everywhere in the US. He is probably telling the truth because some people do take care of themselves.

Uh?

What are you bitching about?

It makes you look like you don't care if you call in sick all the time.

Don't expect to keep your job with that attitude.
