Right!! Kill 800+ whales for research cough cough..

I am glad to see the Greenpeace and other organization successfully stopping this operation. Next time, get some torpedos and sink the ship outright. Or recruit some iraqis to design remote controlled seaborne IEDS to ram the ships.

Seriously, what don't the jap anese eat. From Human fesces to god knows what!

Yup... and if they were responsible for causing the fire that killed the crewman they need to be brought up on murder charges.

I have to admit that I am confused. Are they eating this meat? If so, what is the problem? Unless you are a complete vegetarian, you have no room to cast judgement here.

The issue is an environmental one. Most whale species are extremely fragile. They naturally have relatively low numbers and centuries of hunting drove many near or past the point of extinction. The international whale hunting treaty banned the practice. Note that whales are no longer really needed for anything. They used to be used for oils and other things, but are now just a delicacy.

To get around the ban (which is signed) Japan has been whaling under the guise* of scientific expeditions.

I write guise because they kill over 1000/year. The maximum needed for any scientific study would be 15-20 (other countries have hunted for scientific purposes and come up with this number as well).

According the second link:

The Sea Shepherd Conservation Society says the Japanese whaling operation is in violation of many international laws and regulations, including:

* Violating the Southern Ocean Sanctuary.
* They are violating the International Whaling Commission (IWC) moratorium on commercial whaling.
* They are targeting endangered fin and humpback whales that are protected under the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora. (CITES).
* The Japanese are also in violation of the Australian laws protecting the Australian Antarctic Territorial waters.
* They are violating the IWC moratorium on the use of factory ships to process any protected stock which includes the whales they are hunting ? minke and fin whales.

Yes they are eating the meat
It's jacked up that you're killing whales that are getting closer and closer to extinction

look for some video on what they do to dolphins because I think dolphins eat too much of the fish they are catching. The crys are brutally inhumane and they are defenseless. It's one of the worst things on the internet

The Japanese have a history of abusing and overfishing everything. They will catch shark,
cut the fins off for shark fin soup and throw it back to die a terrible death I say get a new
jersey class battleship out of mothballs, send it out to cruise the whale hunting grounds and
let the 16" guns throw a salvo across the bow to send a message...
