Yes and no. Its more different than before, but still has the CPU/GPU/RAM/HDD/DVD-ROM drive like before.

I've not a huge console gamer (never had an Xbox), but I know the potential for modding the original Xbox. I was actually thinking of picking a modded Xbox1 for cheap once the 360 comes out.

Will the 360 still have the huge modding possibilities, or has MS taken steps to limit it?

For one thing is has 9.6GHz of processing power. A triple core processor each running @ 3.2 GHz. A little more powerful than a PC :)

It'll be a while till a modchip comes out for the 360.

Dunno exactly how long, of course..anywhere from a month to 6 months would be my guess.

I'm thinking it'll be only that long because of how successful the modchip makers were for the original xbox..the gamecube took forever for a chip to come out for, and that was probably because there wasn't much demand for it.

Imagine when a chip does get released though, and someone manages to get windows/linux working on it. It has a VGA adapter, USB ports, ethernet port..Everything a good PC needs, other than it only has 512 megs of RAM. Still, it'll be a good cheap PC.

Yeah, that's pretty shameful on a place like anandtech. Learn how multiple cores work, g'dangit :p

It's video card/chip is supposedly better than anything out though, although maybe not better than crossfired/SLIed megabeasts.

not really. i'd imagine it still runs windows xp, but it's a powerpc processor with 3 cores running at 3.2 ghz and ati R500 graphics (which, oddly enough, is more advanced than x1800xt (R520) or R580 as far as anyone knows) and a shared memory architecture.

most importantly it is suppose to be better than the ps3's graphics card. With great programing tools and a sweet grphics card i'm willing to bet that the difference graphics wise between the two consoles will be very slim. This whol "cell" thing is just another hype machine like the emotion engine.

Please enlighten me on how multiple cores work....

Each core can run effects, sound, etc. at 3.2 GHz each so yes that is 9.6 GHz of power.

It has more processing power than any normal PC, period.
