Ok. Tuition for the Fall is coming up so I can't bust the bank but I need a replacement graphics card for my burnt up Voodoo3 2000. I was looking at the Hercules 3D Prophet 4500 since for $100 I get a card that has Geforce2 Pro like performance. Also how is the display quality on the card? I play 3D games, use the internet, and like to do artwork with Photoshop and Painter. I know it doesn't have hardware texture and lighting support but I am not sure what that is. Did my Voodoo3 have it? Please help me out and point out the pros and cons for me and recommend an alternate route (like waiting if there is something better coming soon). Thanx everyone.

No, the Voodoo3 didn't have the Texture and Lighting support.

The 4500 is a nice card. Has excellent 3D. Decent 2D. I'd go for it.

wiredmike,

I am by no means an expert on video cards, but I have been using my Hercules Kyro II for a few months now and I have not had any problems. I have installed and played three games on it: Unreal Tournament GOTY Edition, NHL 2001 and Black and White. I have also run looping 3DMark 2000 and 3DMark 2001 with no problems. To the best of my ability to determine this, it has never been the cause of crash or hang in my system even with ocing (running AMD Duron 750MHz @ 6.5X147 = 956MHz)

You can buy cards that will perform better, but you know that. I like my Kyro II and would recommend it to any consumer (whether on a budget or not) without hesitation.

I think you'll like this card. I have the Herc 4000xt (Kyro I) myself and I'm very satisfied with it. The Kyro II should be even better.
