After messing up my first year in college, I decided to work my ass off in this year.
Seven weeks into my quarter, I am getting As, but right now I feel like complete shit.
I don't know if I can continue to finish this quarter with these grades.
Through out my life I've never studied hard at all, this all work and no play thing is really kicking my ass right now.
How do you workaholic keep your work intensity level up?

eliminate any pesky social life aspects you have left, everything will be soo much easier once you eliminate all those you care about

If you are getting A's in college you would be crazy to quit.

I got a gf pregnant and I had to quit and I never went back a decision which came back to haunt me many of times. I had to work my way up from the bottom. It is possible but it takes a hell of alot more work then if I had a college degree.

Hey dude, its good to work hard and get As.

But as one famous man said.

all work and no play makes jack a dull boy

Work hard, play hard. Take some time off on the weekend have a brew. Do something..

Try to balance your lifestyle, and find your sweet spot.

Don't give up

Someone needs to bitch slap you for bringing this kind of comment to a general public forum.

I mean, I can see venting in front of your peers, but really, you don't know how good you've got it

only As for this quarter.... like I said, I ruined my first year in college.
Right now I am in the stage of contemplating whether grades are worth sacrificing a social life.
I really want to get into the business department, but I might be a little too late for that.
I've been thinking if I don't get into business, I will lose everything.
All these pressure doesn't help me at all.

Doesn't your grades only count when you're in final year? I know that's the way it works here.

I know what you mean, sometimes I'm working on projects on abour four different modules, so trying to concentrate on one then moving onto something completey different is a little difficult. Just chill abit, and if that before applies to you then just save your energy for your final year.

All of us who work hard for grades feel like crap - we just deal with it...So I will tell you, prayers and sleep will be your best friends.

The UW business school isn't that difficult to get into. Some of the people I know in the program were F*cking SLACKERS and yet they still managed to get decent grades and stuff. Try your best to get in, then once you are in, you can party and smoke ganja on thursday night like all the rest of them. While the science majors study their brains out 24/7.

Well, do you want to make a lot of money in a few years or would you rather dig ditches?? Don't get me wrong, the world needs ditch diggers too but, trust me, making lots of money with your brain is a much better outcome.

Isn't that the truth. Hey man, wait till you've got a family that depends on you to work hard. That will add a little bit of pressure. When you think you'd like to quit and change careers or take a break, you can't do it. Get up and go back to the salt mines and rat race.

Actually the easiest job I ever had was after 2nd year university and then the one after 3rd year :) The 3rd year one I was a secretary for my mom's private practice and she paid me $11/hour to work from 8-4, but I got most of the work done at 11 am or so, so I'd still get my pay based no the entire day and she'd tell me to go home. So I made like $22/hour, and when I got home I'd play ultima online. Whoo hoo!

Speaking as a recent college grad, enjoy college.

I also messed up my freshman and first semester sophomore year. I was not dedicated to making up for it, got my degree, but couldn't find a good job b/c my grades sucked.

So now I have a decent job that has recently agreed to reimburse tuition. I now work 40 horus a week in insurance, and take 9 hours a semester including summers to get that degree I really wanted, with good grades. It is DAMN hard work, but I am trying.

Once you get out in the real world, you will understand.

Focus. When I was getting my bachelor's degree, I was working 50+ intense hours per week, attending a 3-week training course where I also received the "top" award after the exam and graduated Magna Cum Laude. Then ... I crashed.

By the end of this, I was literally burned out. I required a trip to the emergency room - where I was diagnosed with high blood pressure, etc.

You realize that we're talking about college here don't you? :) Every class you take affects your overall GPA, and that's what a lot of employers look at when your a new grad.

Look at it this way. Your social life will be much more enjoyable after you graduate and are making $50k/year than if you are pulling down minimum wage somewhere. :) You can take your dates to nice places, etc. Besides you know what most couples fight about? That's right, money.

Like a PP said, you need to find a balance. Also, work hard to get in to what you want now, then maybe throttle back just a tad. Here at the UofMinn, in the engineering majors you have to apply to upper division after about your second year. If your GPA isn't high enough, you may not get in.

And I also agree, this will be one of the easiest times in your life. Wait until you have to work 9-5, take the dog to the vet, mow the lawn, paint the bedroom, etc...
