I am pretty dumb, How do you fax from your computer with out a fax machine???

HI,

I feel very dumb but once in a while I need to fax something and I don't have access to a fax machine. I thought that you could do it on a computer with a cable modem. Please let me know in easy terms.

I don't know about a cable modem, but you could install a cheap 56K modem card and fax any document or image stored on your PC over a phone line.

To fax a paper document, you would need a scanner as well.

You need a regular analog modem and faxing software to do it from your PC. The only other route is using one of the online faxing services like the one mentioned above.

You just need a plain old modem with software like WinFax.

I think efax was sued by the state of california for spamming its customers with junk faxes...hopefully they've cleaned it up since.

If you go with an online service, post your experience.

You download my company's product! 4-Sight FAX. Its mainly for mac's but we have a pc client as well. go to 4-Sight Fax

really easily. Install a 56k modem. Setup Fax capabilities as a print option in control panel (XP and 2000 have this option). Then when you want to fax a document, just select your fax port as the printer. It works well.

Yes, but ours is a network faxing software. In essence we are charging $95/person and ours works better than any other Mac software on the market hands down. We are also OS 10.2 (Jaguar) compatible.

PS - We are coming out with a single user version next summer.
