Yeah, the PS/2 port can break its contacts with the motherboard if the cord is pulled out carelessly, especially if the port housing isn't pressed all the way against the I/O port plate.

Upgrading to a new system because of a broken PS/2 port is funny :). But any excuse is a good excuse.
