I am semi on hold, but I can hear other techs talking to customers on the other end, One conversation that is going on for several minutes has gone like this: (I only know what the tech is saying)
Tech: Sir please don't cut me off while I am giving you instructions and then ask me to repeat myself
Tech: Yes sir actually I do this every day, and I know how to solve your problem, I just need you to let me talk
Tech: Ok, I am going to let you vent right now, get everything off your chest, then I am going to talk you through this problem, but you cannot interrupt me.
Tech: I don't doubt that you are a computer technictian sir, but you are on the line with tech support for a reason, please allow me to do my job and help you.
Tech: Ok, ping the router at 192.168.1.1
Tech: No sir, all you have to do is open up the DOS Prompt and type ping and then that IP address
Tech:DOS sir, it is under programs under the start button
Tech: No sir, not control panel, under programs
Tech Ok sir, please type Ping 192.168.1.1
Tech: please just do what I tell you sir
Tech:eek:k sir you are not really connected to the router
Tech: No sir you are not, or else you would be able to ping
Tech: Are you sure the cables are connected correctly?
Tech: No sir I don't doubt that you are capable of doing this, but I just want you to make sure
It goes on and on like that for like 10 minutes then I hear him say you have it, thanks for calling linksys tech support. He hangs up and I hear him say "This idiot was a repeat caller, I try to help him, but I can't because he won't shut the F up"

LOL I feel for you tech support guys!

How come you call Linksys Tech Support and don't ask if I can help?

:D

Gotta love end-user tech support! Consultants were always the worst; arrogant bastards with little technical knowledge, in large part.

LOL he doesn't even know what DOS is or how to find the DOS icon in windows and he has the gall to argue that he is a computer tech and is POed at the guy for asking him if the cables are connected? Also what tech doesn't know ping? I feel bad for tech support peeps too.

I just needed an RMA, this was the second time I called about it, the router is dead, so unless you are the router god, and can resurrect it, I think I need that RMA :) Of course when I get the RMA and I can't get connectivity between all of my computers at the same time, don't worry you will be hearing about it ;)

The weird thing about that conversation is it describes a problem I was having with my own router. I could access the internet from my computer just fine and dandy, but if I tried to connect to the router, even ping it, it wouldn't respond and most of the time the network would go down. So long as I didn't try to ping the router IP from that particular computer everything was fine. Tech support insisted I couldn't be using accessing the Internet if I couldn't pint the router, despite my doing so.

Turns out I needed to scale back from 100BaseT full duplex down to 10 full duplex. My network adapter was causing collisions on the network. I can't tell you how many times I talked to Linksys trying to sort out the problem (no yelling on my part mind you). I finally got help on sppedguide.net.

That guy called me once. I hung up on him though. Everytime I would try to speak and solve his issue he would start yelling and me. He even threatend to call back and speak to someone else. I told him they would not be able to help him either if he did not let them speak.

Hmm... I've pulled the whole "I'm the tech. You called me, so let me help you or I'll let you troubleshoot on your own off the phone" line too many times :(
