I bought a customized Aviator G something from Hypersonic-pc.com . After I bought it I started researching on the internet. (Real smart to do it AFTER buying one right??) What I am wondering is, I got a P4 3.0Ghz processor and 1024MB PC3200 DDRAM ( I think, check out my rig, I know it is right on there) in one slot. Was I stupid for not getting a 64bit Athlon and 2x 512MB DDR Dual Channel?? I will be using this primarily for gaming and would have got a desktop but I move A LOT being in the military and all. I got the 1x 1024MB because I figured I could get another when I had 500 or so dollars laying around again and then have 2GB of RAM, which I had not dreamed of till I saw it on the site. I have been very out of the loop for the last few years, and am just now learning how much I DON'T know about computers, so any help is appreciated. Please, if you post a reply, imagine you are speaking to a 4 year old, so I can be sure to understand it. And one last thing, since I have already had this shipped to me, what recommendations would anyone make for upgrades? Thaks to all, sorry for my ignorance.

I think it was a nice buy because you got the 9700 and aslong as you had the funds, it is a nice investment and should last you a while

The P4 would benefit from the dual channel 3200 as the Athlons 64's are not dual channel capable. If you ver add that other gig you can run dual channel but 2 gigs is sorta overkill right right now unless your doing some serious video editing.

A few years ago, anything over 256MB had a big "WOW! factor," as in 'I can't believe you have that much!' Now, 256MB sticks are pretty common. I expect this trend to continue. As to whether or not DDR2 ever takes hold before prices on 1GB sticks of DDR1, well that remains to be seen. While 2GB of RAM may be overkill, it certainly won't hurt anything; too much is better than too little.
Your system is awesome and should play all the games you want for quite some time. Enjoy
