I am new to building computers and all, so if someone could tell me what a good mother board is, like what i should be looking for, um...what does a good mother board consist of? i would greatly thank of it.
Responses to posts like yours tend to be, 'I have an XXXX board and I like it. You should get one too'.
I suggest you spend a few weeks researching at sites such as this, reading a lot of motherboard reviews and visiting sites that offer pc-building tutorials. As specific questions occur, come back and ask them.
Most of us went through that drill.
An excellent site to evaluate specific motherboard manufacturers are the vendor-specific motherboard forums at amdmb.com, where users post their problems and successes with boards by various manufacturers.
Re-reading my own post, it sounds like I'm telling you to just go away - and that's not my intent.
I suggest you should simply clarify a few thing for yourself, such as:
What do I want to do with the PC?
What peripherals do I want to install?
What interfaces do I need (USB, USB2, Firewire, etc.)?
What's my budget?
Am I interested in overclocking?
What cpu brand do I prefer?
Start reading the reviews and get a feel for intel and amd. Choose one for your first build. Then you can start looking for a mobo to buy. I have my own opinions. I like the 845G chipset mobo's right now and am leaning toward the next computer being based on a micro atx 845G mobo with a P4 1.6A. Currently I am running an AMD XP 1600+ at 1900+ speeds on the Epox 8kha+ mobo. I agree with drunkster when he says it requres a lot of research.
