How is this going anyway, did you email elop?

No I haven't. When I get a moment tomorrow, I am going to write a nice considerate letter.

I literally begged in the Nokia forums for some help.

I called support again about the BT freezing issues, and the support person asked me to turn off BT to see if it fixes my issue. :| I may need to RMA the device again, but they say there is no guarantee they'll replace it, or do more than they did the last time.

I updated the firmware on my Pioneer head unit and it made the bluetooth work perfectly. FYI I only experienced the total freeze up once, my biggest problem was no metadata being relayed to the stereo.

I've done that for my JVC unit, but it freezes with any BT device. I *may* have found a link. When I turned on tethering on my Nexus 4 in my car while the Lumia was streaming audio, it froze the exact moment Tethering was enabled.

I wonder if Wi-Fi is causing the issue. I haven't been able to reproduce it.

Just an update:

Called nokia on 2-14 about my OBVIOUSLY unrepaired phone, asked to speak to a manager as there is no way anyone even looked at my phone. The person registered the complaint and said a customer service manager would call me back shortly.

On 2-18 I had not received a call, so I call them back. Same thing about how there's no way to transfer me and I should get a call back within 4 business days !!!!!!! Thankfully, 4-5 hours later someone named Joel actually called me back and setup another RMA, this time to their "premier support people" wtfever that means. He promised me an emailed shipping label within an hour.

2-19, no shipping label was sent. Call back, someone else says oh I see what happened. I ask ok what happened, and they tell me it's confidential. WTFever fine, whatever, just send the damn label.

This company is a friggin joke. I had high regard for nokia before this incident, but no kidding it is absolutely terrible. I am almost a month without this phone, thankfully I have spares to use in the interim.

Edit:

2-20, received label and shipped phone back to nokia.

That's pretty bad. I think this is where having a B&M helps.

With my iPhone I set up an appointment online and walk in/out with a new device. You can even call and have the CSR put a note on your account and the B&M employees will get it at your appointment.

Google is opening stores by the end of the year, but I assume it only applies to Nexus devices.

I have zero issues with a 2 year old jvc AR head unit or a lasonic boombox with bluetooth. At work my dell computer sometimes requires me to shut my phone off and turn it back on to sync though.

I'm curious if it is a radio compatibility issue. I've seen something similar with a certain model of wifi adapter and router before. I really like the phone a lot, it is unfortunate that this is an issue for so many.

Did you order the 920 direct from Nokia or get it from your carrier? I haven't seen any mention of carrier here, but I'd certainly be walking into my carrier's retail store and demoing the issue to them before I'd ship off my main communication tool to a repair center.

IMHO, any company that makes you send a device like this in for "evaluation" with no guarantee of a fix has it all wrong. We live in a world of Amazons and Apples now that pretty much make it right no matter what. This old school way of making the customer wait for you to troubleshoot is unacceptable. The ill will that builds toward the brand/company in the interim is way worse than just footing the bill to keep your customers happy.

Just another update

2-25 - That morning the status shows "Repair request complete Your product has already been picked up from the repair centre."

So... who knows. This is ridiculous.

Way ahead of you... My first cell phone ever was a Nokia. The piece of shit, $170 paid for when new, died on my about one and a quarter years later. Google said that a lot of people with that model had the same problem -- it dying shortly after warranty. never dropped, always kept in a case too.

My Samsung is 3 years old. I've dropped it numerous times from 1m and up. Piece of shit is indestructible and it was only $60.

Ok, the replacement showed up today.

It appears to be a brand new phone, still hw revision 1.0.0.0

The vibrate still rattles like crazy, albeit slightly quieter than the last one. I'm so annoyed at the whole thing that I'm just going to go get an iphone5.

Nokia is now on my do not buy list.

Yah. Sorry to hear about bad experiences and I hope that things will work out in the best possible way for you guys. I played with a 920 today at a mall and while it wouldn't be a choice of mine, the camera was damn nice even compared to the iPhone 5 next to it.

Ok... Hopefully the final update.

The new phone is not crashing, which was by far my biggest issue.

However, it definitely still rattles on vibrate. Annoying but I'll live with it.

The replacement phone doesn't have the ATT 'dark blue' theme, which seems odd. Other than that it's fine.

The first phone I ever liked was a Nokia. I didnt know any better and bought a Motorola, simply cuz of brand recognition. Thing had a burning battery, poor reception, and occasionally set off explosions in southeast asia.

The rattling has gotten MUCH worse, worse than any of the others.

It's loud enough to be heard over conversation in a meeting, or while standing in line somewhere. It sounds almost like a buzzing bee or something, hard to explain.
