I just came from a BC ethic men's factory wharehouse sale and this is what i paid...

3 jackets
1 sweater
3 shirts

the total came out to $90.00...if i went retail i would'be paid at least $500

I have buddy that works at Lucky brand jeans and they say their cost is $5-10 bucks and then stores mark them up $75.00 Same thing at my company we manufacture tops for sears, dillards, robinsons may, nordstrom, wet seal, etc....for $3.00 -14.00 and the stores sell them for $14.00 -50.00

this is what i call being suckered...even when using the coupons

I wouldn't call it being suckered. Some people like to pay a lot of money for logos on their clothes. They could sell identical pieces of clothing, one with the big-name logo and one without, and people would still pay 4x more for the logo. I'm not one of them, though.

Buying clothes cheaply takes a multi-part strategy:
1) second hand stores (REALLY good deals on undies here)
2) get your workplace to buy some "safety" items for you (like steel toed boots) and wear them all the time
3) K-Mart for $10 - $15 pairs of shoes. Second pair 1/2 off, usually, so buy two pair at once
4) eBay. Do a search on your pants size like this: 36x30 or 34x32 or whatever. You can get more specific results with a color like this: black 36x30
5) buy huge quantities of identical socks when they are on sale
6) CarHartt T-shirts are over $20 as I recall, but they last freaking forever. Black pocket T's with the CarHartt logo, VERY strong construction and thickness
7) Always shop the sales and dig through the closeout bins (no brainer I hope)
8) To make getting dressed simpler, buy all black clothes all the time (okay, that's just me and ViperGTS I think, but it works out)

I usually check out the clearance rack at JC Penny's.

I've got a whole closet full of some pretty nice button up business casual shirts that I got for anywhere from $5 to $9 a piece there. These shirts use to cost $25 a piece, but got marked, way, way down. Every week they usually add something new there, so I hit those.

Another store in the mall called Rue21 has some really good deals too. Usually buy a pair of pants at $20, get one free, or buy a shirt at $10, and get the second for $1, stuff like that. I can get a pretty good bang for my buck for $100 between those two.

My expensive part are shoes. I can't wear payless specials. I need to get a nice pair of Nike's to keep my feet happy. It sucks having odd shaped feet :( I get all of my shoes from the local Nike outlet at half off retail prices, + another 10% off 'cuz I'm special :)

I'm starting to become partial to buying clothes at Target. Some of their prices are damn good, at least to this now-tired-of Abercrombie shopper. Last week, I bought a two-tone Mossimo sweater that was tagged $19.00, thinking that was a good price, only to find out at the register it rung up $14.47 because it was on sale. I used to put down department store clothes, but Target especially has good quality stuff for the money. I also scored a pair of carpenter jeans for $16.88. Maybe this is no big deal, but I'm used to paying $39.50-$59.50 at those specialty stores in the mall and they seem the same to me.

My clothes closet is bursting at the seams because I'm finding so many deals in this recessionary economy. A good 3-4 weeks passes before you see me wear the same thing twice.

I save money on clothes by never initiating a purchase. If I had it my way I'd never buy anymore ever. Eventually mrs. skoorb get sick of my tattered crap and says I need more and she drags me kicking and screaming to a clothing store. Of course I'm sure to steer us towards the cheapest clothing possible. The compromise between her naturally female tendency to buy clothing and my carelessness towards clothing ends up with me having what I consider a pretty nice closet and what she'd consider to be pretty barebones.

You just described me and Mrs. Dullard. I think this is the first time we ever were on the same side Skoorb. Don't expect it to happen again. ;)

I hate shopping for clothes. I wish I could just go hunt a cow or something and have the woman sew me a loincloth or something. now that's clothes shopping.

Hmmmmm ....
This used to work out great for me when I had to wear a dark suit to work every day.
Just reach in the drawer and grab any two socks and you got a pair.

<< second hand store for undies? eek >>

I know about the eek factor. But that's why they're so damn cheap. *No one* wants to buy used underwear. But man. The prices on REALLY nice brand name boxer shorts are rock bottom at the second hand stores. You can hardly see all the stains on them :D.

I think Old Navy has some good prices even if everyone and their mama buys their clothes. I don't shop there but they've got really cheap stuff that look like it coulda come from abercrombie or banana (though if you care for thread count and stuff there's a big difference... thanks to my ex girlfriend for that piece of advice)
