I was seriously considering it in '07, and will seriously consider it again in a year or two (going back to school and want to finish my degree first).

I hear it's hot, but more people seem to like it than not.

if you like sunshine and blue skies, you'll love it. most days this time of year you can wear shorts and tee shirts to be outside.
yea it does get hot in the summer, but you learn to adapt. good excuse to spend the afternoons kicking back and having a cold one.
as far as big cities phx is not as bad as many.
you are 2hours drive away from mountians and pine trees, near mexico, a 6 hour drive( 1 hour flight) to L.A.

What to do in Phoenix?

Hiking - south mountain, sqauw peak, camelback, cave creek, etc. etc.
Drinking - great bars out here (stay away from scottsdale - stick to downtown phoenix or mill (college area))
Camping - Go north a few hours to Prescott or Flagstaff
Skiing/Snowboarding - It's awesome in flagstaff right now
Sports - Diamondback games are a blast, Suns games are supposedly fun (still need to go), Coyote hockey games are awesome, Cardinal games are awesome when they play your favorite team
Music - A lot of really cool venues - Clubhouse, marquee, modified arts, etc.
First Fridays - happens downtowns the first of friday of ever month. Music outside, cool bars open and packed, arts and crafts on the streets, randomness (poem readers, break dancers, fire dancers, snake charmers, etc.)
Farmer Market - You will laugh if you come from a rich climate/soil area, because Phoenix's is really lacking but they still have good local produce
Food - There is some amazing food out here, seriously. Use yelp.com for recommendations, but there is a ton.
Light Rail - Just opened, our metro. You can take it from Mesa (stay away), through Tempe, to downtown, and finished in midtown (northern downtown)

I've lived here for 2 years and I love it. Although in a year or so I'm packing up with my soon to be wife, and we're gonna go to Seattle I think.

I have been living here for about two years now. I used to live in S. Florida and much rather live here. The temps do get well above 100, 115 can be a norm, but its not as bad as it sounds. When it gets above 107 its just HOT and I mean hot. When i moved here i lived in Tempe, the east valley. It was nice and more developed but definetly a college crowd in the Tempe area since ASU is right there. I have recently bought a home in the west valley and really enjoy it. Pretty quiet area and still not far from down town if I wanted to go.

I was being mostly sarcastic. Phoenix definitely has it's perks. (blue skies, lax gun laws, great food etc. ) But, at the end of the day it is still a concrete city full of degenerates and old people.

Its called old people who go there to retire.

The only place in the entire US that you could choose to live thats worse then Phoenix....Nevermind even Miami isn't as bad as Phoenix

LOL!

It's got about 180-220 some days of the year that are nicer than 80% of the rest of the country at that time of the year, it's got tons of stuff to do outdoors, an endless number of golf courses, shopping areas, and restuarants, plus it's an easy drive to skiing areas, Vegas, Mexico, and California.

And you think it's the worse place in the US to live? Why don't you spend a year in Bismark, ND and then tell me that Phoenix sucks as bad as you think it does.

ah well, I like Phoenix for the time being. Yeah the outskirts are full of precut communities packed with old people. Tempe and Downtown Phoenix are fun though.

And Miami is 100x worse that Phoenix. The whole state of Florida is.

Phoenix is noisy, very noisy. And polluted. And has sprawl that would make LA blush. And extremely conservative, far to the right of Goldwater. But it is warm and it is within easy driving distance of some great country for hiking. A few good restaurants here and there. Housing prices have started to come back to earth so you're moving at a good time.

I'd never move to Phoenix. No diss to the people who live there but the weather is too hot for me and I like at least some greenery outside of the golf course.

OK I'm tending to agree with you, thats where I was going and for some reason backed out of my original inclination.

There are a few places I would never, ever under any circumstances want to live and Phoenix and Florida are both at the top of the list.
