Get chessmaster 8000. I got it a couple of months ago and was really rusty. I hadn't played in probably 6 years. I'm still worse than I used to be, but I have my ranking up to about 1800 and can beat people consistently around this level.

I play chess too, and not too shabby if I do say so myself. I have no idea what my rating is because there are all sorts of different scoring systems.

I play on chessclub.com and have been on and off for years now. It is a pretty good site (costs $50/yr so you should really like it) They have a free 14 day trial if you want to try it out, highly recommended.
