So far I've found Fuji S602 for it's price and performance. Any other recommendations? Where can I buy this cheap?

I"ve been real happy with my Sony F707. 5 MP, 5x optical/2x digital zoom. Had it for almost a year now, no problems. 😀

How is the price? I heard the F707 had some problem with red color and they came out with F717,did you have similar experiences? Thanks.

I heard that theydid have problems with reds oversaturating and on the early ones blue flash syndrome. Haven't seen either on mine as of yet. My sis is going seeing a photo major and he says that they look good to him also. Form what I"ve read, just about any camera is going to have it's own quirks, some undersaturate, distort when zoomed. Canon and Sony are some of the better digicams out there. IMHO

I paid $625 at Sears back when it was still 1k everywhere else, because I got in with their online pricematch deal, not sure if that's still going on or not, I think you can find the 707 now for around 650-700 because it got superseded.

the F717 has a slightly faster shutter (1/2000 sec instead of 1/1000)
improved ISO up to 800 as opposed to 400
there are a couple other improvemnts I can't think of offhand.
It's actually just a new model, the 707 had been out for about a year when they intro'd the 717

here's some websites I go to a lot to see what hot or not

also check out this camera Sony DSC-V1 has the style of the Canon G1,G2, G3.

I got a true "prosumer" digicam last July - the Canon D60. A true prosumer camera has interchangeable lenses. 🙂

Anyway - I have taken over 2000 pictures with the D60 (6.1 megapixels) under all sorts of conditions, using a variety of lenses, and it is really a photographer's tool. The Pro model D1 (11 megapixels) costs 5 times as much.

There are some excellent buys in prosumers of the fixed lens variety - and I would probably go for the Olympus E20N. I've seen that below $1K now.
