I am in need of help...

Great forum by the way, greetings all.

I plan on ordering today (need to get this thing together ASAP!). I already have a good quality LCD monitor, optical drives, mouse, keyboard, and 5.1 speakers from another computer so I will not need to replace them as of yet. My budget is $700 shipped and I would prefer to get my parts from zipzoomfly as I have had good luck with them in the past and I like their shipping rates. As for my use, it's hard to say as I do a little bit of everything including some gaming when I have time.

Could someone please recommend at good case, motherboard, CPU, powersupply, RAM, hard drive, video card combo for me for around 700? I already have a Zalman HSF that I got as a gift. Again, I would want to use ZZF if possible for the parts. Thanks in advance...

So you recommend that I go AM2 this time around? I had looked into some 939's but I hadn't really configured one using AM2 yet...

You can keep your memory and board if you move onto K8L. If you upgrade to Core 2 Duo you can at least keep the memory.

Oh no, why must these problems continue...

My monitor only has a VGA connecter which has been working fine on my old BFG 6800 (AGP) that I have currently installed. However, I noticed that the new card has two DVI connecters in the rear. My card included a DVI -> VGA adapter; but when I tried it, I got no picture on my monitor. When I put in back into the VGA port it came right back on. I guess if I rule out a faulty adapter, I am stuck putting more money into another monitor which is going to put me way over pathetic budget. I swear, technology despises me...

1) the Asus comes with two DVI-to-VGA adapters, judging by Newegg's photos of the same item: http://images10.newegg.com/NeweggImage/productimage/14-121-004-05.jpg

2) don't hot-plug DVI, k?

3) shut your computer down, put the DVI adapter on, plug the monitor into it, and start the computer again. Result = working? There ya go.

Dang, and that's a hawt buy on the SLK3000-B :Q Is that a pretty reputable outfit to your knowledge, Howard? Because I wouldn't mind having another SLK3000-B to replace my Lian-Li at that price 😎

Result=not working (even after a shutdown)

I will see if a friend has another adapter I can try, and I will go from there...

AFAIK, there isn't much to complain about. I'm considering getting one myself.

EDIT: That is, if I can't get the Ever Case ECE4252... which is exceedingly difficult to find locally here.

Before I place my order (Lord knows I am a bit apprehensive as this is my first time build), the MSI board recommended above would be a better choice as opposed to something like an ASUS M2N-E? I only ask because I can't seem to find any reviews on the lower priced AM2 boards from any manuf, and I usually hear praises about ASUS (could be fanboys) wherever I look. Thank you all for your help, and I will be out of you guys' hair in a minute 😉

Honestly, I have no idea. You might have better luck with the M2N-E when it comes to the part arriving in working condition, though, if Newegg user comments are worth a crap.

I have built several systems using ASUS motherboards and never had a problem. On the otherhand, I have had two motherboards from MSI and they proved unstable.

I really appreciate it guys. The ASUS isn't all that much more. Well, I am placing the order right now. Expect me back when I get the parts in because I just know that I am going to run into some kind of problems when I first turn on the power 😕

No problems at first BOOT if you follow The Guide http://www.mechbgon.com/ read it over while you await your hardware.

*Knocks on wood* Of the 5 I've built and several others I've up graded for others, not one has failed to POST then BOOT.

Do not rush your first comp assembly 😉

That's good advice.
