i am in financial trouble, i need 300 bucks by Saturday...

this is the situation
i got in an accident 3 weeks ago, and the car is getting fixed and insurance would pay for the damage, but I still have to pay for the 500 bucks deductable. I thought I had more than 500 dollar in checking account, and it turned out I didn't.

the body shop told me I can get my car by Saturday (good news), I thought of paying him later whenever I have enough cash, but my school will start next week on Monday and I NEED the car by Saturday. to make matter worst, my parents will be coming to town next next week, and I DEFININTELY need my car by then. they are already quite suspicious on what going on lately.

so, the only solution I can think right now is
1) use my credit card and cash advance (which charges quite a hefty percentage charge and I will have to pay the first month interest no doubt)
2) borrow money from friends.
3) find a temp job

I really want to do 3), since I have this weekend off (just fininshed my finals today), but I don't know where to find such a job in such a short time.
1) is do-able, but not preferable; and 2) should be last resort.

any advice?

Bite the bullet and use the credit card since you need the car right now. Then, get a job as soon as you can, you should have no trouble making $300.00 within a month, so you'll be able to payoff the balance without most penalties and interest.

I think he has to pay cash, can't use credit. Cash advances start charging interest immediately.

yeah, I need to pay cash or check,
hey ddjkdg: how does the Cash advance work? I know its charges like 3-5 percent up front, what else?

Tell your parent the options you listed [so they know you are a bright guy, hopefully they don't think less of you] and ask them for the money. Also included the time frame you are going to pay them back. Why pay more to the credit card comp? As asking your friends, it depends how close they are to you and how generous they are to help you, if you think you not going to get their help don't beg them for it.

Go to a bank, hand them the card, ask for a cash advance.

Usually higher interest from moment of purchase and maybe even a surcharge.

smooth1:

I can't let my parents know, I already messed up and asked for allowance advance and did what you said in "paying them back in selected time frame." that was only 3 months ago.

and asking to borrow money from friends is actually a VERY delicated matter, results may vary.
of course your close friend will throw in whatever they got, and not-so-close friend will probably say no. but money is always a sticky matter. One close friend of mine borrowed money from me once, even though we are quite close I still have a "bad feeling" about it. One thing I don't know is when can I ABSOLUTELY re-pay them back; if I promised them a deadline and can't pay them by then, I lose their trust; and if I drag too long, they will get pissed; it is quite a lose-lose situation. Maybe its a pride thing, but I still consider borrowing money a last resort.

I agree... use the card for cash advance... then get a temp job later. I can't stand stressing over something like this for too long... and I don't like it when money gets in the picture between friends... I hate that feeling but that's probably because my friend owes me money and he hasn't paid me back yet.

well, I do have something to sell come to think about it

Epson Perfection 636U Scanner
Purple Halogen (or Xenon?) Bulbs 9006
some games like I'm Going In, MDK2, Rune, and Baulder Gate II.

andylawcc: Paypal or use some other form of instant pay off...you can do it, seriously....shoot...too bad you don;t work in my line of work, doing in home demostrations and sales (Filter Queen) you can make money when you need it...

Andy sorry to hear your having this problem. I wish I had 300 bucks spare to loan you. I am way below my limit and trying to find a job myself.

I will see if I can find you a temp job for a quick help kinda thing out here somewhere.

why dont you use an ATM or go to a supermarket and get a cash back? i dont get charged any fees for those with my credit card.....

If you get a cash advance on your credit card and pay it back in a couple of months, the interest and fees will probably be less than $15. That's a pretty painless way out of an emergency.

Yeah the place doesn't take credit card...?

Anyway it will be 3-5% the amount you pull out with a minimum of $5 and max of $40 (at least my card is like that). Interest kicks in right away but on $300 will be negligible. Also the interest rate is not higher (at least on my card) for cash advances.

Do credit card.

okay, that does it, I will go with the credit card thing,
I have thought of the paypal way: send my friend money (paying with credit card) and ask him to send me back the same amount, I withdraw it and apply it to my bank account. but that will take 3-4 busniess days.
and I am not sure how that Paypal Debit card works.

anyway, Cash Advance it will be.

Wanting to stay away from credit cards and such is a good idea, but in this case, that's exactly what you SHOULD use a credit card for. You're in tight spot, you need the cash now, use your card, get the advance. You'll be charged a flat fee of 2% or so of the advance ($6) as a fee, and you'll pay a higher interest rate on the advance, but all in all it will cost you no more than $15 or so total. The thing to watch out for is that you don't fall in the trap of putting it on your card and then not pay it back or add more things -- then you get into the spiraling situation.

okay, no more drama now 🙂

the body shop afterall do take Credit Card, so I can worry about the payment a month later.

thank you everyone.! my day is getting better... 🙂
