Let too many bills get out of hand, and now the only way for me to get back on track is dippin' into those. I"ll have to pay it back over the next year, but at least I won't have collections people calling me. I did this to myself, bah, sucks. I need to eat out less.

Well, at least your not letting interest pile up against you. It sucks but it definately could be worse, just watch True Life: I'm in Debt.

rough way to go toekramp, may want to rethink your budget...borrowing against the 401(k) is definitely last resort...

I was considering this a while back, almost signed the paperworks but in the end decided against it. Borrowed some cash from parents, and I've just done my taxes so I figure I should clear up a lot. Through business losses, I'm able to get back some change from Uncle Sam, so that should take care of the debts that I almost had to pull some of my 401K for.

I think you're in the same boat, I wasn't very wise about money and credits. I'm sure after this, I can rebuild things really quick. Best of luck to ya.

I did the same thing, but it was due to my wife retiring and it taking the state twice as long to give her a pension...that sucked :(

getting a loan against your 401(k) isn't the same as pulling money out of it. if you withdraw money, you pay the 10% penalty and taxes. if you get a loan against it, you just pay the interest to the custodian

Oh, I know. What I actually meant was "borrowed", I posted a thread about this a few months back.
