Nothing important here, just a bragging thread because I'm so excited.

I got my acceptance letter to Vanderbilt Medical School this afternoon in the mail. for me! Without going through my whole life story, I've had so much luck getting to this point, I'm afraid it's run out. Now, I just need to find a way to pay for it without making the fiancee help out. :)

Just a note to all people who come from a broken home in a poor part of town. You can do anything you want to do. :)

Sorry, I need to it to get money to pay for med school.

Plus, you'd probably end up being the prosecutor in one of my inevitable malpractice suits.

I was adopted. If you want a whole life story, I can give it.

Guts, and your on talents got you to where you are. Not luck.

Just always remember this.

Where you are in life, or where you want to go, is always a direct result of the decisions you make in your life.

Cliffs notes:
Born to a single, unwed mother and grew up in Inglewood (East Nashville, TN).
Biological mother was killed in a driveby when I was 15
Sent to live with grandmother
She died when I was 16
Sent to live with my step-uncle who eventually adopted me.

Yeah, congratulations.

And I very much agree, except, I'll broaden it some. You can do anything that you put your mind and body into. If you want something bad enough, there is nothing that can stop you.

It sounds to me like its been less luck and more that you've earned it.

I too come from a broken home and we were far from rich. There's a lot more to the story than I'll ever tell, but I'm kinda glad for it, because if it hadn't happened that way, I don't believe that I'd be as good of a person as I am today.

I agree. If I hadn't have grown up the way I did, I don't think I would have had the work ethic I do now. I also don't think I would have such an empathetic heart. Still, I like giving credit to luck instead of myself. :)
