I am going to tear apart my Dell 3000!

So some of you may reme, ber a post ahwile ago about my Dell 3000. It sucks as it only has PCI slots.

So I have decided to go ahead and collect parts to swap all of it to a new MOBO. Currently I know I can reuse the CPU (P4 3.0 GHZ) , memory, and HD. I know I need a new MOBO. I have a 5200 AGP card and a case with PS.

Question is this.

What slot do I have?

478,423, or A?

More specifically its a P4 3.0 GHZ with HTT

Thanks!

I've done Dell conversions quite a few times, so here are some things to look out for.

- The front panel lights/switches may have a ribbon cable that connects to the Motherboard, making it difficult to wire the power switch and LED's to the new motherboard. Several times I had to cut the wires and test everything using a multimeter

- The motherboard mounting points are sometimes too low. For one conversion I did I had to rip out the mounts (they were not designed to be removed) and replace them.

- The motherboard backplate is often the wrong size, non standard. This means you may not be able to snap in the new backplate without cutting some of the opening.

- Replace the PS.

Good luck!
P.S. I always use AMD parts so there are quite a few Dell's out there with AMD processors.

I would sell the Dell intact, and start over. Or, ascendtech may still have an Intel 875 dual channel board with the Dell front connector and bios for $50. It should work with your Dell copy of windows xp, but won't have any overclocking options. It might fit your dimension case.

I am sorry, maybe I was not specific. I have a case with a power supply. It also has connections forr the power and reset. All that. I intend to use it and the PS. I wil get a NEW MOBO, and reuse the P4, memory and HD.

Edit:

The DELL case will end up on my shelf. I will sell the ATI Radeon 9100 PCI and my GeForce FX 5500 PCI to cover my loses. I wil retain the nifty black DELL monitor.
