Umm no chances are you'll walk out of there without buying a thing because the people that work there are minimum wage earning morons that don't know the difference between a desktop and a laptop computer.

They don't sell crucial ram, thats the direct divison of Micron. THey might have Micron but usually its on a crappy PCB and the CAS latency is 3. I hate fry's, i do buy things occasionaly but only if it is retail boxed and I inspect it thoroughly first, then i hand it off to my friend so I can use his employee discount :D

Fry's is pretty good actually. Some employees know what they are doing too, you'll figure it out.

Tips for your trip:
1) You'll love the door-Nazi's :|.
2) Don't believe a single word the salesmen say.
3) The white "Inspected by a Fry's.." stickers on 75% of the inventory are AKA "The sticker of death." (returned items).

BTW, anybody ever notice that when you return an item to Fry's and you tell them that "it's ok, just not what I wanted, blah, blah" that they put the sticker on the box without checking it to see if it really works?

Another tip for Fry's.

There are people who try to check out your stuff when you go out the door. You are under no legal obligation to let them do this. Just tell them to !uck off and keep walking. At Costco, they can do it though, because when you sign up you allow them to do it. But Fry's claims they are only checking for their own mistakes, which you don't have to let them do.

Also, you're really lucky if you find something not opened and/or damaged in the computer departments...

Look for open box bargains. They do negotiate the price. If it says 30% off, there is a very good chance you can get it down to 50% or more off. It's in complete discretion of the salesman. And some of items labeled open box are in fact unopened.

Whatever you do, do not buy their extened coverage warrentys. They are just away to part a fool from his money. Also go in armed with a lot of information becase they will try and mislead you and sell you on "better" products.

Don't talk to any of the employees and be sure you don't buy something with a returned sticker, 2/3 times something will be missing or simply broken in half.

I don't think they have thermal glue. From what I recall all they had around my local ones was crappy ass thermal grease (beige in color). RAM prices are gonna be higher than buying direct from Crucial. Frys = CRAP

Fry's has some good deals now and then. I remember buying 4X cd-rom's for only 40 bucks some 6 years ago.

Just go have fun.. and also try out their fast food joint inside.. (not all fry's have em, the burbank one does).

Relish the stuff.. spend as much time as you want.. its a toy store for adults.

They sell alot of busted stuff.

It took returning two motherboards before I got one that would even post. And all Mobos had those damn "We dont know if it really works, you try it and tell us" white stickers on them.

Fry's is a POS, imo.

Crap stuff, crappy condition, and crap salesmen = Customer saying "Crap Crap Crap" that evening trying to get it to work.

They get so many returns they don't even question why. They just take it back, and apparently put it right back on the shelf.

My $.02.

the thing that really confuses me is why do people knowingly buy something that has been returned? why? it doesnt make sense. most of the time, they always have a brand new one nearby that you could get instead of the used one.

i know that the sunnyvale store ALWAYS has at least one or two new items. i never buy any of thier returned items, unless there isnt anything to break on it.

heck, a few months ago, we got a motherboard from frys, and the socket lug broke off when we tried to install the heatsink. took it back, said that we cant get the heatsink on with that thing broken, and they took it right back and let us exchange for a brand new one. and i think they even put a broken sticker on that other motherboard too
