Just take a shower instead. When you try to cover up your stench, the cologne will eventually wear off. When I wrestled in high school I remember a really bad smell of BO and BRUT. Girls just don't dig that. It smells worse than the BO alone...

I suggest you go to Macy's and start smelling. Brand and price really don't matter with cologne. No one can see that you're wearing Lacoste cologne like they can see you wearing a Lacoste polo. Pick the one that you think smells the best. Or better yet, if you have a girlfriend ask her which one she thinks smells the best (don't show her the bottles though, girls are brand whores).

What smeels good to you may not smell good to others.

I would suggest you hit up your local higher end department stores and take a whiff.

I like the Dunhill line up - few other guys use it so I stand out from the crowd.

I currently use Burberry, DG, Acqua di Gio, and Cool Water. I use Cool Water the most though. DG is a bit on the heavy side...good for a nite out.

Just got Armani Attitude, it smells pretty good. Still have some Curve Wave left, and I really like the bottle of Boss Hugo Boss my parents got me.

Nobody has suggested Armani's Aqua de Gio? I love that stuff.

My wife got me a bottle of this last year.. I like it quite a bit.

I remember everyone and their mom used that in high school. I still smell it sometimes around college, but seriously, it gets old fast cuz everyone's been through it.

Well, we are a ways out from school, so whats popular with the kids really isnt an issue. I know what you mean though.

I remember when I was younger everyone wore Preferred Stock or Polo, and of course 2 quarts too much.. It got pretty annoying. Then it went to Coolwater once the Snoop Dogg album came out ;)

cologne is one of those things that you just need to try out yourself. Other peoples opinions won't matter much as only you will be the ultimate judge. Just go to the store and grab some samples and try them out. The person selling the cologne will tell you which brands are popular.

*looks through thread*

phew, mine hasn't been mentioned yet. I personally don't want to hear, "oh so and so also uses this scent." One of the reasons I really didn't like those sample packs as they tend to have the more popular ones. You can usually get smaller vial samples of pretty much everything.

I also liked acqua di gio, drakkar noir, z zegna. If you don't have a significant other (even if you do, don't tell), take members of the sex you're trying to get with and ask them.

I was considering between a few scents for my new evening (fancy dinner type) events and one of my female coworkers immediately said, "mmm, that smells nice. If my date was wearing something like this, I'd definitely want to get closer." Take it as you will, the smell won't make a bad date good, but it was the cincher for me. 3 other girls that I asked for opinions all agreed.

My two favorites (cause I'm a cheap skate)

1) Curve for men
2) Cool Water

All this talk about women flocking to you, and only one thing to say. It's not what you wear, but how you wear it.

The link I have provided below seems to be a good starting point.
It is from the store Sephora. They specialize in a ton of beauty and frangerence products for both men and women.

If you don't know what kind you like, have the gift-giver give you the package below. You start with a sampling of cologne then when you find one you like, you take the gift card included and get a full size bottle at the store or on line.

Look here

Excellent advice. I have had my bottle of Candies for Men since 8th grade so this year when it finally ran out I asked for cologne. We actually went to the store to pick it out. There are tons of good smelling colognes out there that just don't fit me right. Not only do YOU in particular need to like it, you need to like it ON you. Some colognes mesh better with your natural body smell than others.

This is what I ended up with: Jean Paul Gaultier's Le Male.

I went with her to Ulta and tried a lot of what was suggested here, all the Armani, etc. This is what I ended up liking the most (she agreed) and what smelled the best on me. Find that for you and you are golden.

Will you be turning in your man card first?

Anything that get's you laid more often by definition makes you MORE of a man. For someone with a law named after them you sure aren't up on all the man laws, ;).

the bolded part, and your last statement, are two of the most important things in terms of cologne choice. :D
but seriously, so many colognes, I simply hate. Very few smells have ever seemed to 'mesh' with me. I mean, so many of the colognes out there smell so strongly and just have these unnatural scents to them. Hell, the one my roomie wears I cannot stand, it makes me sick smelling it, and it's so strong in the bathroom, for the next hour, after he puts it on.. I want to gag, and no smell makes me gag (including any non-cologne smell :p).
With that in mind, I may have to turn in any perceived man-card, by admitting my preference for Very Sexy (for men, by Victoria Secret). Yes yes, harass me now. Get it over with. But for some reason, no other smell has seemed to smell right on me, they are just don't fit my character or just stand out way to much. Very Sexy has a tendency to not be overpowering, and if its created by women for men, then they must have the right idea and must like it on their men. ;) I've had plenty of girls I've met at school tell me they like the smell, but sadly I always seem to attract, and be attracted to, the ones who are already spoken for. Women that like Army men, and would seem to match my personality and interests, are always spoken for, typically by other military types. gah! No luck these days. Oh well, one less thing for me to worry about spending my money on I guess.

agree with ThePresence

Issey Miyak is the greatest ever.
Silver Romance is also incredible.

And don't laugh....

I like Adidas Moves, it doesn't last very long, but it's like $15 a bottle and smells REALLY GOOD. You can buy it at Target, they actually have a decent selection. Not 100% Adiads Moves is still made but I use to love it, the newer Adidas one sucks bad.

Get Issey you will love it, or rather your GF will love it, that stuff is magic in a bottle.

what the? *slaps oldsmoboat with a wet trout*

take it from a woman, a man bearing the light scent of some nice smelling cologne is going to get some attention even if he's not worthy. :p

that said, the lastest colognes for men that have caught my nose are: Diesel - Fuel for Life, Derek Jeter's - Driven, and Calvin Klein - MAN

Never have wore cologne, ever. I also don't wear watches, caps, or necklaces, etc. Wife loves me for it, and the only ring I have ever worn is my wedding ring.

You would think I'm a fairly boring guy huh.
