Finally, the refs are calling the fouls that they need to on Shaq. He likes to elbow his opponents and shove them out of the way, I can't believe how much the refs let him get away with. This is why I do not like to watch Shaq and Karl Malone play basketball. In game 2, Mutumbo got a bloody lip from a hard elbow from Shaq and he needed three stitches. He also has a bunch of bumps and bruises from having to guard Shaq. This is ridiculous. Whenever the refs start to call the proper calls on him, Shaq whines like a baby claiming the refs were out to get him and that they are being unfair with him. He mentioned after the game that Dikembe was faking the flops in game 3 to get the foul calls. I have never seen Dikembe fake fouls and seeing how hard he is hit, I would doubt that he would be faking it. You can not fake three stitches either. I sent an email to the league to thank them for finally calling the right calls on Shaq and asking them to continue making the right calls on people like Shaq and Karl. If you want to email the league, you can do so from:

Let em play some good hard bball out there. I don't want games being decided at the free throw line.

And if they called all the fouls his defenders make, they'd foul out before the second half started.

Well if they are going to start calling that an offensive foul on Shaq then they should start calling Iverson for travelling when he takes 4 steps. As much as you whiners would like to think otherwise bad calls/lack of calls always seem to be split evenly against teams.

Sure, why not? While Shaq's throwing elbows and his weight around, why not let Mutumbo get in a few shots to the kidney? Seems almost fair, eh?

Games have ALWAYS been decided on the free throw line.

If they aren't going to call those fouls in the 1st quarter, they shouldn't call those fouls in the 4th quarter.

The refs need to be consistent, but they weren't for game 3 - they were some really bad calls in that game against the 76ers. But, we'll see what happens in game 4.

Shaq is a punk - he needs to learn that basketball is not about 'taking it to the hole'.

I think he should watch some reruns of his boss, Jerry West, in action, and learn what the game is supposed to be about.

Heck, he could even watch the old 'Showtime' games with Kareem, Magic, Scott, and Worthy, and see how the game is supposed to be played - unselfishly. Until he learns that, he's just going to be a punk.

By the way, unselfish does not mean passing when you've got the other team double-teaming you for all the band wagon Laker fans out there.

Shaq never whined about any of the calls. He accepted them like a man. What are you talking about. What I'm pissed about is Iverson rolling around on the floor like a baby and not getting a technical called for that.

blues008, you could do that all day in the days of boring white player dominated league, but in todays more athletic league, there is a whole new kind of basketball. i personally prefer the latter, we are all entitled our opinions, whatever floats your boat.

Brotherman,

Are you saying the Jerry West didn't 'dominate' - that he wasn't athletic???????

Wow, take a look at his numbers, and tell me that he doesn't deserve to be in the Hall of Fame.

You know the NBA logo is supposed to be an image of him, right?

Boring days of the NBA? What are you talking about? I guess you should tell that to the Celtics fans you dominated with their dynasty. Example: 'Havlechek stole the ball, Havelechek stole the ball!!!!!!!!!!' Do you remember that one?

Race has nothing to do with it.

Bill Russell played in an 'all white town' in the 'all white age', and he was a great center - because he was unselfish. He knows when to kick the ball out, and he knows that it's a TEAM game.

That is also why Kobe is a punk, and even worse, a punk that thinks he's better than MJ.

Which player do you like to watch more...Shaq or Kobe?

I easily will take Kobe over Shaq because he is more of a basketball purist. He psyches people out and doesn't just elbow them out of the way. I have no complaints about how the refs treat Kobe. I do not hate the lakers players in general, just don't like how Shaq plays or whines. It is really boring and frustrating to see Shaq get the ball, then shove people back and then when he is close enough, elbow his opponent and then take it to the hoop. When he is getting a rebound, he also likes to grab the ball, then elbow people out of the way and then dunk the ball. If he likes to elbow people, he should join the WWF. For a center, I much enjoyed the old school ways than the way Shaq likes to play. I admire many of his talents. I actually used to be a fan of his when he first came to the NBA but then I got really tired of his style of basketball and how he would complain when he didn't get his way.

I too am glad to see refs finally start to call stuff on Shaq. Don't get me wrong, I don't want to see every ticky-tacky foul called, that would ruin the game..... but I don't want to see Shaq win games simply because he outmuscles the other player. If he wants to outmuscle guys, let him go play football or something, basketball is supposed to be a non-contact sport. A team game, based on quickness, skill, desire, and athletisism. It's not the WWF.

i respectfully disagree. while its not an all out brawl, strength is part of key to
success for big inside players

Shaq gets his calls and doesn't get his calls -- its how basketball goes. Refs aren't perfect, but they do the best job they can and they are the most qualified ones to do it. Shaq is a big player and uses his size as an advantage, but that isn't a foul at all. How can using your size, speed and strength be considered too much of an advantage in basketball?

Refs call the game as they see them, but they can't see it all. I would bet Shaq gets plenty more hacked than the refs call, but what can other centers do? He's so big, fast and powerful, its almost a foul just to stop him.

Shaq does deserve the fouls he receives and takes them like a man. He hit Mutombo hard and it was obvious, but he didn't roll on the floor like an Iverson cry-baby.

For those who do not like the style of play that Shaq or Karl Malone display, please email the NBA. Thanks. :)

<< How can using your size, speed and strength be considered too much of an advantage in basketball?>>

I don't think using your size, speed and strength is wrong at all, that's part of the game. I just don't like watching the amount of skill deminish and be replaced by guys that are just huge and strong. If I want to see big guys pushing each other around, I'll watch sumo or football. When I watch basketball, I want to see skills, grace, speed etc.

<<strength is part of key to success for big inside players >>

Agreed, strength is part of the game, to get position, keep position etc... I think a lot of people (such as Pidge for example) think it's become too much of a factor.

well shaq is a poor example of such as he has solid footwork, good array of inside of moves, amazing quickness for his size and he is extending his range with that soft hook.

Shaq's game definitely isn't grace, that's for sure. But I'm not expecting that from a big man like him. He's dominant in the paint and that's all he's really good at, but he's damn good at it. When I watch basketball, I want to see speed and power of forwards and guards, but I want to see a killer center too.

Playing basketball when I was kid, I was always a center (I would make a guard now), so I've always admired what they do and how they do it. Shaq is almost perfect at being the dominant position in the paint.

Next year will be a different year for basketball, mainly because of the zone defense. Shaq can easily be doubled in nearly every game next year, but he can guard more of the paint as well. We'll all see how effective Shaq's game will be with the elimination of illegal defense.
