Yes: it's OK for the money.
No: spending more (it should still be under $300) to get a plain 6800 will be a much better buy.

How could it be ok for the money when he can get a 9800pro that is possible to flash to 9800xt bios for 2 dollars more?

maybe he wants it for doom3? That 5900 is probably as good or better a d3 card than a 9800pro.

To the OP: That's no 5200. 5900's are good card's. ~ to a 9800pro. Maybe a smidge slower, but not noticalbly.

a 5900xt's proformance would most likely be almost the same as the 9800pro, but the pro would beat it in every other game out.

You'll be making a mistake by buying any FX card right now, IMO, but I suppose a great price could compensate for their slow DX9 performance. But a 5900XT for $190 is a mistake when you can buy a 9800P for the same price, a card which will be faster overall, particularly in newer, DX9 games.

The 6800 is a pretty good buy, too. If you don't want or need Far Cry, consider the MSI 6800. It has a decent bundle, too, and it has a custom cooler that's quieter than the stock nVidia one. GamePC.com has a review of the MSI.

Because it isn't? I didn't say it was the unbelievable deal of the century. I said it was "OK."
