I had a belt pulley that was making some noise. Not knowing which one it was I took it into the shop to get it replaced. Turns out it was the AC belt pulley barring. So I am having them replace the belt + pulley (the belt is questionable). Should I have them replace the other belt, the one that controls the alternator, water pump and the power steering)? It will only be about 15 more minutes of labor and $30 for the belt while they are down there. I have seen the belt, and it looks fine to me. Worth the extra $40-50 or just save it for later?

It's always worth it to have the mechanic replace/repair any additional items that are in close proximity to what he's actually repairing. So yes, But $30.00 for a belt. And I don't want to even know what he's charging for labor. That is why I do all car work myself. BTW it's called an AC Berring.

What's the mileage? And what year, make, and model of car?

Accessory belts should last about 100,000 miles on most new and late-model cars. It's possible that the worn bearing on the A/C pulley (technically not a pulley but an electromagnetic clutch assembly on the compressor unless your A/C belt has a tensioner pulley somewhere) was causing additional resistance and prematurely wore out the A/C belt.

If you're over 60,000 miles I say just replace all the belts and enjoy the peace of mind unless your car has a timing belt, in which case everything will have to come off again when that is changed, so just wait until then to do the rest of the accessory belts.
