I am finding a good firewall software which is low on resources.

Well, I have been using Zone Alarm Pro for the last 2 years. But the new version (version 6) is killing me. I've 1GB of RAM but whenever I open any file (whatever that is) that takes a few seconds to load (even thats a normal 1KB text file). But, when ZA is deactivated then everything works just fine. So, I'm finding an alternative to Zone Alarm.

Please recommend me a good firewall software.

Thanks in advance :)

Try Sunbelt Kerio 4.

It has quite a few features, and the price tag is great ($19.95 for 1yr sub $9.95 to renew. All figures USD). The trial is full featured for 30 days after that it is free (but with some features disabled).

The system overhead is low, and it is very stable (I haven't had it crash once). It easily passes all stealth tests as well (once you set the rules up).

I use Kerio 4 as well and it works pretty good. I have not had many problems with it at all.

That's only one way too.. so a router and software firewall (other than XP sp2) gives a nice rounded security net and it gives you much better control.

The native Windows XP SP2 firewall.

Its only a one direction protection though.
Outbound filtering is not a security measure for hosts. Outbound filtering is great as a management tool for enterprise networks, to prevent users from using IM, for example.

But it does jack for making your machine more secure.

++ on the recommendation for the XP SP2 firewall.
