I am finally getting broadband

Within the next few hours, dsl will be activated in my home. I have the sbc deal for the 1.5 meg line for 16 bucks a month for 6 months then 26 a month afterwards.

When did you first get broadband and how was the cost/speed?

Small update.
630pm and the line has not been changed! Im beginning to think sampson is right.

Cable....this was 6 years ago. I think it was 1.5 down, not sure how much up. I think it was $35 a month.

first broadband ran $50/month - $40 for SBC+$10 for ISP - 128/1.5 DSL back in 12/99

now i have SBC DSL Pro, 512/3 for $21.99

i was looking to maybe switch to dsl from cable.. save a few bucks... but it seems verizon's dsl lookup is for fios only... and that will never get to me. no competition sucks when you want to have broadband.

I think that switch would be determined by how much speed you need. I play a few games online (not fps), chat, surf, and download my 2 anime shows a week+ some top gear when it is up. The 1.5 meg line is perfect for what i do.

Ive had broadband ever since i started to attend UTA. Devious gives me a wonderful 3000k download rate off his server. 700 meg ep done in less then 3 minutes

Think about going from that to 56k? bah happy!

I signed up for SBC's $14.95 deal for one year in June. I'm scared of what it is supposed to be after that year is up. My letter from them says $50 and I will not pay that.

I've had broadband since approximately 1999. It was @home (now owned by comcast). Don't remember the price..but the speed was fast1

XP SP2 took exactly 6 hours for me to download with dialup. Thought it would never end.

man...sprint is raping me in the @ss! i pay like $70 a month for 1.5 mb DSL...
and i can't change because there isn't anyone else that offers it in my area.

i've only had it for about 2-3 years now. i signed up for it the day it became available.

Check what the current deals are and re-up. We had 1.5/368 DSL for $50 starting in 2001, but then about 1.5 years ago, I checked what the current deal was and it was 6.0/512 for the same price, so I was able to upgrade for free. Once you are out of your initial contract, you have lots more flexibility and bargaining power (plus, prices for DSL service always come down).

just checked, i can upgrade to 3 mbps down and 512 up for $59.99 - fvcking bastards...
needless to say, i took that deal.
get faster speed for $5 cheaper
