With my last few computers I was buying Dell or Gateway with low end processors at really good deals and upgrading the processor every 6 months or so when prices dropped. I was always significantly below the top end systems.
Now, by heeding the advice of my fellow Anandtechers I have a 100% solid system that with a $220 processor and a little overclocking is faster than any stock cpu except for the quad. And since most apps don't utilize quad core in most apps my system is the faster than any stock Intel solution.
I used to dream of price breaks and buying a faster chip. Now you guys have spoiled me! Yes, I guess I could squeek out a few hundred MHz, but possibly at the expense of stability and heat. Right now I'm cool and solid.
Yes, I guess I could buy and E6600 and hope for a good overclock, but the extra cache only provides marginal real world gains.
So now I have to wait until Intel catches up with the Anandtechers!
I'm being sarcastic but actually it's a great position to be in.
Thanks for all the help during my component selection process, during the build, and after.
All of the recommendations were spot on. I doubt I'd change anything if I did it again.
