I need it because it is sleek, and most important noiseless and moveable
Can I lap top work 24/7 same as a desktop does?

Thanks for any input

Yes they can work 24/7 but they are not noiseless. They do have fans just like desktops (maybe some of those ultra portable's with low voltage CPUs don't). They are usually quieter but not silent.

Yes, that is doable. However, to conserve your LCD's backlight, set it to sleep or turn off after X minutes of inactivity.

It's a rather expensive solution as well.

ECS desknote.
You have to be kidding me! Thats a peice of junk, cheap but still a peice of junk, especially the Via processor version.

Get a notebook from a well known manufactuer.

Thats funny, every review I have seen has been almost 100%. I almost bought one until I decided to rebuild my desktop.

Laptops will offer less performance than a comparable desktop; that's the tradeoff for the powersaving and portability. They're still pretty quick, but if you're used to a desktop, you might notice the degraded performance. Of course, it depends on the type of computing you do; some processes are less affected.

Upgradability (like the graphics) is much more limited as well.

Make sure you buy a spare power supply or two as well.

Good Luck

I just got one last week and has been running 247 non-stop w/out crash. I don't think it is a piece of junk, if I do, I will definitely provide an example or more info. By comparison to my Sony SR notebook, I can't be happier.

1. my Sony SR stuck w/ PIII 750, and 256MB RAM. (ECS desknote, I can pop in faster CPU when "newegg" has another sale. ;)
2. I really don't carry my Sony anywhere anymore. (everywhere I go, seems to have a PC. Even w/ Sony, battery last no more than 3 hours multitasking - besides, no internet connection, all notebook seems like a OVERSIZE PDA)
3. expansion on ECS desknote is just amazing. (okay, maybe way too many USB2 port for me ;) )
4. Did I mention ECS is very stable????
5. There is no way you can get a XP1600 + 512MB DDR RAM + 40GB HD + 14" TFT "notebook" for less than $900

Unless you REALLY need a lot of mobility, I suggest going with a nomal desktop. Laptops are all proprietary, and therefore you are subject to quality skimps in various areas as well as bloatware. Not to mention, you are going to pay more money for less performance. Also, the screen will be much smaller.

If you really need to get a laptop I hear good things about Dell and Compaq. IBM is good as well, but they are getting out of the business, so future support may be slim.

Yea, the ECS desknote sounds right for your needs. The reviews I read on the ECS desknote have been positive as well, though I've never owned one myself.
