I am buying a Switch! (Links Awakening is being remade)

One of my favorite games of all time. The original was really designed to work within the limitations of the Game Boy and its screen. They really really reeeeaaallllly should have re-imagined the game with a treatment like Metroid (NES) -> Metroid Zero Mission (Game Boy Advance). As it is, new players on Switch will be confused about why the game is designed the way it is.

I'm hearing a lot of crying on the internet from people who are already crying about it being $60, even though the price hasn't been announced yet.

Hope it's not $60. I remember playing this back in the day in all it's green shaded glory. I wisely invested in rechargeable batteries. For a game system with only four shades, the Gameboy had some damned memorable games.

It's going to be $60. No doubt whatsoever when it's a first party game. Expensive games are just something you gotta live with when you buy a current gen Nintendo console.

$60 is expensive for games now?

Games have been $60 since the Xbox 360 launched in November of 2005. And not just on Nintendo consoles.

There's also a difference in paying $60 for DKC that is a few years old on a previous gen console that is basically a port, and paying $60 for a complete remake of a 20+ year old game.

$60 is expensive if you're used to PS4/XB1 prices where games are only full price at launch.

Playstation games were cheaper. N64 games used to be $80 to $90 in 1996 dollars too. Plus SNES games often included hardware in the cartridges expanding the capabilities of the system so it's not exactly apples to apples.

But if we're talking now, Nintendo games are the only ones that regularly stay at $60. Sony and Microsoft are pretty aggressive with price cuts once a game gets out of its initial sales window with their first party stuff.

Nintendo doesn't lower prices because they don't need to. If people are paying $60 for your games at a constant rate, why would you lower the price? That would be bad business, and remember, Nintendo prints money.

Not trying to make a judgement as to what they should be or shouldn't be doing. I'm just pointing out their games are expensive relative to the other two consoles.

I don't think this is nearly as true anymore as I see discounts on Switch games all the time. In fact, Mario Odyssey, Splatoon 2, and Breath of the Wild are on sale at Walmart for $45 right now.

They are still rare, and the fact they are on sale for $45 right now everywhere IS a big deal. I mean BOTW is a launch title. It's nearly 2 years old and going on sale is a big deal.

Still pales in comparison to the deals you see on PS4. Those games are also 1.5 to 2 years old. While on PS4 their big 2018 hits like God of War and Spiderman are $40 MSRP, much less the deals you find from individual stores. I paid $25 for God of War and Spiderman was $30 at Newegg a couple of days ago (still waiting for it to hit $20 since I have a big backlog). Horizon Zero Dawn is $20 MSRP with the DLC included. Yakuza 0 is $20 MSRP. I can go buy Persona 5 right now for $20 from Gamestop. NieR Automata was $20 about a week ago. I paid $8 for Ratchet & Clank off PSN. $10 for The Last of Us off PSN. $8 for the Uncharted Nathan Drake Collection off PSN. I bought Yakuza 6 the other day for $20 from Best Buy.

Switch is a much more expensive console to play the top games on. I think it's worth it for many games since I bought one. But it's not the unreal bargain gaming on PS4 is.

$60 for brand new original game, that's reasonable in today's market. But for a port/remake...that's kinda high. Unless you're adding a lot to the table like the recent RE2 remake or the rumored FF7 remake.

The indie scene on Switch is incredible. My buddy brought his over today and had Gunman Clive on it that he got for $4 today and we played through some levels taking turns on each level, and the game is so much fun. The music is awesome too and it clearly takes inspiration from a lot of NES games. I just snagged it myself for $4.

We also played some Tetris 99 and that game was a lot harder than I expected. There is also a lot of luck to how you get attacked in it.

As someone who almost exclusively uses his Switch as a handheld, I'll also add that I've never paid $60 for a handheld game. So, yes, Nintendo prices are high.

60 bucks is way high for a mobile game, but for this one I will pay it since I will play it ten times.
