I bought an AOPEN case already, with a 250W Powersupply

I am planning on getting a 1.33 or 1.4 ghz athlon.

and a a7m266 or epox ek7a motherboard

I wont have it loaded with tons of harddrives, so do i need a new powersupply?

i will just have 1 dvd rom, and cd burner, and 2 hard drives, and lots of pci cards and geforce 2 pro.

if i need a new one, which one should i get, i want one thats not loud, but doesn't cost a lot of money.
thanks

You need a new one.

Enermax 365 or 465 will do fine and provide additional cooling. Dont skimp on the CPU cooler and crucial ram works well with the A7M.

I use generic power supplies and my systems are rock solid. No problems whatsoever. If you want a more reliable power supply, I'd say go with what you can spend on one. 300W or 350W is plenty for what you are planning for your system. Look to spend around $50 for a decent power supply.

You could get enermax 431w for around $85 + s/h and it is silent.
PSU is a good investment and can make your system more stable.

Power don't have a stable output at 250w in your case, so having more extra power means more stable system.

I don't know about 250w, I currently use 300w on my 1.1ghz and 431w on my 1.4ghz.
My 300w PSU is louder than my enermax 431 :)

Id say a minimum of a 300 watt ps! Antec is pretty good, pp303x is the model# of the 300 watt one!

Yes you most likely will need a new ps, the geforce2 and your amd chip need constant clean power a 250 watt is asking for trouble! Save yourself the hassle and pick one up!
On pricewatch the sparkle/enermax are 30-40$ and its 50$ for the antec.

definitely get a 300w powersupply, it's not worth taking the risk with your computer with the high-power athlons.

I'm running a 1.33 on an A7M266. My power supply is a 300w Antec that came with the case and it is rock solid.

yeah right. I've got the Enermax 431W and the thing sounds like a 747 getting ready for take-off.
