I just ordered myself a Dell Inspiron 8000 with the NVIDIA Geforce 2 Go. Over $2500 for the sucker. I am gonna be broke until Christmas now. And then I will be broke until next year because of all the Christmas shopping I have to do. I just miss having a laptop. Anyways, does anyone want to know how well this video card will perform when I get it? It is supposed to ship on Tuesday. Does anyone have one of these notebooks? Can you overclock the video card with coolbits?

Im not realy sure, but I think the Geforce2 Go is supposed to be a scaled down version of the Geforce2 MX

The Geforce2 Go will perform on par with MX 200. It'll do Quake III 1024x768 16bit at 47 fps. Don't bother trying to play it in 32 bits cuz it'll choke. Unless you need a laptop for extensive travel, I would suggest that you return it or get a cheaper model. 3D acceleration in the mobile market still has a long way to go even though the GF2 Go has made a huge leap as well as the Mobility Radeon from ATi.

I have the same thing (see my sig), but mine has the ATi Mobility M4 32MB 4xAGP graphics chip. It's fast enough for me. The GeForce2 Go wasn't available with the Ultra XGA monitor, so I had no choice. I simply LOVE this little ah heck. It's my LAN party machine. All I gotta do is tag along a mouse and I'm set! You will be thrilled with the performance and reliability on the laptop purchase you've made!

Congrats and enjoy!

out of curiousity, dont laptops have lcd monitors (duh)? and dont people complain about first-person shooters and the blur effects they get when playing them on lcd monitors? is there sumthing different with laptop monitors, or do you people simply cope with it? or is it not as bad as it was proejcted?

This is true, my friend. Playing counter-strike gets kinda tough because you have to adjust your head, contrast, lighting, etc. and you can't move too much, otherwise black objects are unseeable.

Quake 3 isn't as bad because all of the characters are bright, along with the scenery, so all you have to do is look for brighter characters, where CS is more realistic in that field.

Yes, it is LCD screens that are used in laptops.

Just keep an eye out for [-404-]James_Bond (That's me in CS and Q3)

Muhahahah! :D

Well, the review of the Toshiba Satelite with Geforce 2 Go on Toms Hardware states that the memory is rated for 183MHz. If that is the case with my laptop, then I will try to overclock it if I can. Does anyone know how to tell what speed a memory is spec'd at? Thanks.
