I am bored bored BORED with my pc games and require something fresh and new. Played enough Oblivion, won't play wow, have hundreds of hours in all the Total War series, CS:S & BF2. I've played most shooters and although i love a good fresh shooter i've been playing them for so long i am not easily amused by them any longer. So while I'm waiting for UT2007 & the next installment in the Total War series and Team Fortress2 what should i try?
Looking primarily for games released within the last year.

Any and all tips appreciated.

You say you're bored then you tell us how closed minded you are.
Not much help for us to offer. If it has to be recent then you are only limiting yourself.

go play some rpg :) or buy MGS 1 and MGS 2 with a USB controller like an xbox 360 usb controller to enjoy some awesome interactive game that is like an awesome movie with so many twist and turn. FF7 for pc is another great choice. Remember Console port aren't keyboard and mouse firendly so you will need a decent controller.

I suggest looking to the past. Baldurs Gate 2 is a true RPG (not an "action RPG"): You can get some of the best RPGs ever made in one box now, IMO BG2 is the best game ever made (rival being PlaneScape: Torment). I am on my 3rd replay of BG2 right now.

The infinity engine games have huge modding communities that can keep you entertained for a long time.

Since you enjoyed oblivion, why not try Morrowind? The game of the year edition has both expansions. It is better than Oblivion in everything but graphics.

But, if you want a first person shooter (with rpg elements) that is FAR better than oblivion and morrowind, checkout: Vampire The Masquerade Bloodlines or Deus Ex if you have not tried them (both are on steam).

only your 3rd replay of bg2? wait till you get to #5 or 6. everything is so predictable, yet the game is still so much fun and challenging (insane skill ftw!):D

If you like clicking more often. I prefer Morrowind combat and ruleset. They also went more mainstream with the mages in oblivion, mana regen on the fly for example.

I really wish that Oblivion had levitation:(

totally cool! I broke CD1 of BG and wanted to replace it.

I've also never played IWD2.

$50 is money well spent on these historical games. Doom holds a very hisotrical place in the area of FPSs and so to does the IE games to RPGs.

However, I'd rather have NWN2 than NWN because NWN2 has hills, rather than risers.

Oblivion was almost a total letdown for me. I agree that Morrowind surpasses it in almost every aspect. :(

OP: Ever try Morrowind? If not, you may want to. It's old, but there are plenty of mods out there.

I picked up Titan Quest + Immortal Throne for $26 on Steam last week and haven't been able to stop playing since. A worthy successor to the Diablo II line if that's your thing with a ton of replay value. The skill & class development system is really robust and can lead to some interesting challenges at higher difficulty levels as you make your way though the game.

[parreting the statements of others, plus some of my own thoughts]

Civilization IV
Galactic Civilizations 2 (plus addon)

from other thread, manimal wrote:
If you like Medievil 2, try out some of those mods, really good replay ability specially that big one with the different houses in italy, Sicilian Vespers.

How about a change of genres?

true RPG (not an "action RPG"), although much older than 1 year:

Fallout 2
Arcanum
Baldurs Gate series (as others have mentioned)
http://forums.anandtech.com/me...id=40&threadid=2041107

strategy/"epics": although much much older than 1 year:

XCOM 1
XCOM 2
MOO2 (NOT moo3)

Played FarCry yet? This game still looks phenomenal and has some amazing mods (the Matto Series) as well as a pretty good story. I'm playing it through for the 4th or 5th time now at least.

although I hate the thought:

buy some sunscreen, a good pair of Nikes, and .... venture outside, GASP!!!

Enjoy the remainder of this mild summer.

Sometimes, you just need to experience total withdrawal from pc games, to really appreciate them. Plus, you might just find some new hobbies, new interests, new groups of friends. Don't worry, though, as your most trustworthy friend, your PC, will still be waiting for you with no ill feelings of abandonment when you eventually return to it. Just remember to bring it a gift. Similiar to women liking flowers, your PC will like more memory. :)

Chronicles of Riddick.

I spent the last month almost exclusively with ScummVM, going through a bunch of stuff I had missed over the years.
